Buttigieg Calls Pence a Christian Hypocrite for Condoning Trump’s “Naked Sins”

From the Washington Examiner:

Pete Buttigieg criticized Vice President Mike Pence and Christian politicians who support controversial Trump policies as hypocritical, but stopped short of calling them “sinful,” as Joe Biden did.

“I’ll be careful to use that word to kind of point out a speck in my brother’s eye,” the South Bend mayor told Religion News Service when asked whether politicians who supported family separation at the border were guilty of “sinful” actions. “What I would say is that it’s clear that some naked sins are being at best condoned by people who then summon religious arguments. That rings more and more hollow. It’s not just that we might have a different interpretation of faith, it’s that these arguments no longer stack up even on their own merits, right?”

“For example: Mike Pence’s view of Christian sexuality is obviously a little different than mine,” said Buttigieg. “But even with his view, it makes no sense to condone this president and his behavior. So there’s two layers to this. There’s the fact that I subscribe to a vision of faith that leads me to a certain place politically. But it’s also just seeing the hypocrisy among people who now endorse people and practices that are offensive, not only to my values, but to their own.”

Buttigieg’s charge of hypocrisy echoes comments he made at the first presidential debate, where he went after Republicans’ use of religious language and said the party “likes to cloak itself in their language of religion.”

Soaring Democratic 2020 Candidate Pete Buttigieg’s Dad was a Marxist

Well, he wouldn’t be the first president raised by Marxists. Know what I mean?

Pete Buttigieg presents himself as a “capitalist.” His policies, while not exactly Marxist, would be an assault on capitalism, like those of most members of the 2020 field.

Meantime, Buttigieg has raised $7 million and was third in a recent Iowa poll.

Buttigieg, who is gay and has a husband, also wouldn’t be our first homosexual president. That would be James Buchanan, who we were told in grade school was our “bachelor” president.

Anyway, back to ButtiDad.

According to the Washington Examiner:

The father of Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg was a Marxist professor who spoke fondly of the Communist Manifesto and dedicated a significant portion of his academic career to the work of Italian Communist Party founder Antonio Gramsci, an associate of Vladimir Lenin.

Joseph Buttigieg, who died in January at the age of 71, immigrated to the U.S. in the 1970s from Malta and in 1980 joined the University of Notre Dame faculty, where he taught modern European literature and literary theory. He supported an updated version of Marxism that jettisoned some of Marx and Engel’s more doctrinaire theories, though he was undoubtedly Marxist.

He was an adviser to Rethinking Marxism, an academic journal that published articles “that seek to discuss, elaborate, and/or extend Marxian theory,” and a member of the editorial collective of Boundary 2, a journal of postmodern theory, literature, and culture. He spoke at many Rethinking Marxism conferences and other gatherings of prominent Marxists.

In a 2000 paper for Rethinking Marxism critical of the approach of Human Rights Watch, Buttigieg, along with two other authors, refers to “the Marxist project to which we subscribe.”

In 1998, he wrote in an article for the Chronicle of Higher Education about an event in New York City celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Manifesto. He also participated in the event.

“If The Communist Manifesto was meant to liberate the proletariat, the Manifesto itself in recent years needed liberating from Marxism’s narrow post-Cold War orthodoxies and exclusive cadres. It has been freed,” he wrote.
