In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Trump: The Cornerstone of National Security is Pride in Our Nation

President Trump Monday took a deeply philosophical approach to securing the nation, calling for a reaffirmation of unabashed pride in our country as the foundation for protecting and preserving it.

Rejecting the equivocation about America that marked the Obama years and that continues to plague the Democratic Party, Trump asserted that the country must stand tall and have confidence in itself in order to summon the will to defend itself.

From today’s speech, given at the Ronald Reagan building in Washington:

I am proud to report that the entire world has heard the news and has already seen the signs. America is coming back, and America is coming back strong.

A nation without borders is not a nation.

A nation that does not protect prosperity at home cannot protect its interests abroad.

A nation that is not prepared to win a war is a nation not capable of preventing a war.

A nation that is not proud of its history cannot be confident in its future.

And a nation that is not certain of its values cannot summon the will to defend them.

We know that American success is not a forgone conclusion. It must be earned and it must be won. Our rivals are tough, they’re tenacious, and committed to the long term. But so are we.

With the strategy I am announcing today, we are declaring that America is in the game and America is going to win.

Echoing Ronald Reagan’s policy of “peace through strength,” Trump said: “We recognize that weakness is the surest path to conflict, and unrivaled power is the most certain means of defense.”

Trump enunciated four specific steps: We will secure our borders; we will strengthen security by strengthening the economy; we will rebuild the military; and we will lead and champion our values, but we will not force others to adopt our values as we seek common goals.

But they were almost incidental to his core message of restoring America’s character.

With this strategy, we are calling for a great reawakening of America, a resurgence of confidence, and a rebirth of patriotism, prosperity, and pride . . . As long as we are proud – and very proud – of who we are, how we got here, and what we are fighting for to preserve, we will not fail.

Keane: Obama Dangerously Eroded Our Military Capabilities

Retired Gen. Jack Keane, a Fox News analyst, said Sunday that the U.S. military has been starved of the funding it needs and that we are even at risk of losing a war with China.

Keane said:

Our capabilities have eroded, and our readiness capability has significantly eroded. We’re just not paying the money it takes to train our pilots, maintain the training proficiency of our units, do the training for seamanship that’s necessary . . . On top of that, all the military services are too small.

Our extraordinarily irresponsible former president, Barack Obama, left this country in serious danger by allowing severe cuts to military spending while he pursued new adventures in social welfare programming.

It is not clear that the military will be rebuilt adequately under President Trump. Congress must appropriate more money, and Democrats, as Obama did, are holding military spending hostage to vast increases in domestic spending. Republicans will probably have to agree to it if they want to secure the country. Which of course fosters another national security nightmare Obama failed to address, the exploding federal debt.

Sessions: “This Nation Must End this Culture of Leaks”

I’ve never seen anythink like this. It’s like a candy store for journalists.

It’s so obvious that people within the administration with allegiance to Barack Obama are trying to take this White House down. The press claims the Trump people are leaking against each other, which may be true, but I doubt it goes as far as people are saying. You risk your job by leaking against other White House officials, and it’s not worth it.

But if you’re an Obama holdover and you are probably on the way out anyway, then treason looks good. I mean, what else would one call the leaking of Trump’s entire phone calls with the Mexican and Australian leaders. How can the president function if foreign leaders know their remarks to him are going to be come public? But it’s much more fun for the press to portray the White House as Game of Thrones than accuse Obama supporters of perfidy.

Add in the obvious contempt for which Hillary Clinton held classified information, and her ability to get away with mishandling it, and leaking becomes even easier.

Obama Gutted Our Military Readiness

Barack Obama, who was responsible for the nation’s security, insisted that military spending be included in the “sequester” that automatically cut government spending.

Testifying before Congress Monday evening, Secretary of Defense Mattis said “the damage has been severe” to our military as a result

No enemy in the filed has done more to harm to combat readiness of our military than sequestration. We have only sustained our ability to meet American’s commitments abroad because our troops have stoically shouldred a much greater burden.

Another gift by our leftist president to our fighting men and women, and our nation.

Trump Signs Orders to Vet Those From Terror Areas; Rebuild Military

First steps to make our country more secure. Funny, Obama is always portrayed as cerebral, Trump as instinctual, or worse. And yet Trump is pursuing rational policies any average American can see we need for our security.

From the Washington Examiner:

President Trump on Friday signed two national security-related executive actions on Friday, while attending the swearing-in ceremony for Defense Secretary James Mattis.

One action is focused on rebuilding the military, something Trump has frequently promised to do.

The other is aimed at stepping up screening measures for people entering the country from areas besieged by terrorism. Trump has repeatedly called on the government to implement “extreme vetting” with individuals entering the U.S. from terror-filled insecure regions.

Trump promised “a great rebuilding of the armed services” as he signed an executive action focused on beefing up the military.

A compelling photo. Notice, though, one of the participants appears to have a golf shirt on.

Tom Donilon, The Four Million Dollar Man

President Obama today announced that National Security Adviser James L. Jones, disliked in Obama circles, is leaving earlier than expected, to be replaced by his deputy Tom Donilon, who is liked in Obama circles.

Well, he didn’t announce it exactly like that, but that’s what’s happening.

Some may find this comforting. It was nice back in the Seventies when the United States was protected by none other than the Six Million Dollar Man. In Donilon, Obama has something almost as good: The Four Million Dollar Man.

Chinese President Hu Jintao congratulates Tom Donilon on making $325,000 a month in 2008

Because that’s what he earned in 2008. It’s time to start spreading the wealth around, for goodness sakes.

Donilon has been steadily accumulating wealth for years. He lobbied from 1999-2005 for Fannie Mae, trying to keep regulators at bay while Fannie Mae self-destructed amid accounting irregularities and loans to people who couldn’t afford them, driving the housing market and the economy off a cliff and into a ravine so deep that NO ONE CAN FIND THEM.

Having done his share to wreck the economy, Donilon went on to assist some of the financial fat cats Obama is always complaining about. From an April 5, 2009 Wall Street Journal article on some of the Obamaites 2008 earnings.

Deputy National Security Advisor Tom Donilon earned $3.9 million as a partner at the law firm of O’Melveny & Myers LLP, where his clients include Citigroup, Inc., Goldman, Sachs & Co., and Obama fundraiser and heiress Penny Pritzker.

Four million bucks in one year. Where’s the Hope and Change? NO HOPE!

I’ll bet Donilon can afford a flat screen TV.

Donilon has been trying to seize power for years, and now he’s finally got it. In his pursuit of power, he’s worked for the following people: Jimmy Carter, Michael Dukakis, Bill Clinton, Joseph Biden, and Barack Obama. Pretty good pickings.

He’s basically a good political operative who works very hard, and Obama likes him.

But, where’s the change? NO CHANGE! Come on! This guy’s a bigger insider than Henry Kissinger, without, so far as I can tell, much experience in national security before joining the Obama White House. He rose to become former Secretary of State Warren Christopher’s chief of staff in the 1990s, but does this qualify for him for his current position?

Oh, and the brass doesn’t seem to respect him. According to Bob Woodward’s “Obama’s Wars,” Defense Secretary Gates thought he would be a “disaster” as National Security Adviser.

It’s OK that the nation’s foreign policy is being run by a Secretary of State without foreign policy experience and a National Security adviser without a long history of national security experience. I DON’T MIND AT ALL!!!!

I do mind.

A good rundown of Donilon’s bio – and those of the other members of the Donilon Washington clan –  can be found on the Washington Post’s Who Runs Gov.
