As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

Democrats to Vote on Impeachment Resolution Thursday

This has been the first impeachment inquiry not to be authorized by a vote of the House, and the question of whether it was legitimate might have otherwise made its way to the Supreme Court, where the Democrats may well have lost.

From a “Dear Colleague” letter by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi:

For weeks, the President, his Counsel in the White House, and his allies in Congress have made the baseless claim that the House of Representatives’ impeachment inquiry “lacks the necessary authorization for a valid impeachment proceeding.”  They argue that, because the House has not taken a vote, they may simply pretend the impeachment inquiry does not exist.

Of course, this argument has no merit.  The Constitution provides that the House of Representatives “shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.”  Multiple past impeachments have gone forward without any authorizing resolutions.  Just last week, a federal court confirmed that the House is not required to hold a vote and that imposing such a requirement would be “an impermissible intrusion on the House’s constitutional authority.”  More than 300 legal scholars have also refuted this argument, concluding that “the Constitution does not mandate the process for impeachment and there is no constitutional requirement that the House of Representatives authorize an impeachment inquiry before one begins.”

The Trump Administration has made up this argument – apparently out of whole cloth – in order to justify its unprecedented cover-up, withhold key documents from multiple federal agencies, prevent critical witnesses from cooperating, and defy duly authorized subpoenas.

This week, we will bring a resolution to the Floor that affirms the ongoing, existing investigation that is currently being conducted by our committees as part of this impeachment inquiry, including all requests for documents, subpoenas for records and testimony, and any other investigative steps previously taken or to be taken as part of this investigation.

This resolution establishes the procedure for hearings that are open to the American people, authorizes the disclosure of deposition transcripts, outlines procedures to transfer evidence to the Judiciary Committee as it considers potential articles of impeachment, and sets forth due process rights for the President and his Counsel.

We are taking this step to eliminate any doubt as to whether the Trump Administration may withhold documents, prevent witness testimony, disregard duly authorized subpoenas, or continue obstructing the House of Representatives.

Pelosi Vigorously Opposes Impeachment . . . in 1998

These politicians, busy quoting Thomas Paine, Benjamin Franklin, etc., etc, are just a bunch of partisan hacks.

Shoe on the other foot 20 years ago, Nancy Pelosi was talking about the other party’s “vengeance” and “hatred.” Meantime, Bill Clinton was guilty of hair-raising sexual harassment and lying during a legal proceeding.

“Today the Republican majority is not judging the president with fairness, but impeaching him with a vengeance,” she said. “It’s about a punishment searching for a crime that doesn’t exist.”

H/T Daily Caller.

Pelosi Walks Out of Press Conference When Questions Turn to Impeachment

She doesn’t want to impeach President Trump. She knows it’s only going to unite Republicans and get Trump’s base out to the polls in droves.

Nancy Pelosi is not a genius, but she’s a pretty smart politician.

According to the Washington Examiner:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi shut down press questions about whether the House is conducting a formal impeachment inquiry as some lawmakers claim.

“I’m not answering any more questions about a possible inquiry, investigation, and the rest,” Pelosi tersely told reporters who asked her about the matter at her weekly press conference.

Pelosi’s frustration led her to walk away from the podium, cutting her press conference short after calling for the media to focus on the Senate GOP’s refusal to take up a Democratic proposal to expand background checks for gun purchases.

“Why is it that you are hung up with a word over here when lives are at stake over there?” the California Democrat said, walking out of the room.

Video || Hillary Calls Pelosi Video Tweeted by Trump “Sexist Trash”

Okay, the video President Trump tweeted of Nancy Pelosi was heavily edited.

But it still presents things she said and did – you know, saying “three” and holding up two fingers.

And how on earth is it “sexist”? So if you mock a woman, it’s by definition sexist. I think that women can handle themselves and don’t need the protection of a false label.

Especially the woman who is second-in-line to the presidency. Is mocking her sexist? Should we just not bother her, even though she’s extraordinarily powerful?

Here’s Hillary, using fully loaded terms to try to get some attention. She’s so disingenuous and pathetic.

But don’t count her out. I had a dream the other night — yes, us pathetic political types dream about such things — that the 2020 Democratic convention was deadlocked and she suddenly swept in and got the nomination.

It could happen. I’m sure it’s what she’s angling for.

Here she is. Oh, that annoying voice. Sorry to do this to you.

Here’s the “sexist” video Trump tweeted.

If trump said “three” and held up two fingers, they’d be invoking the 25th Amendment.

Kellyanne Conway says Pelosi Treats Her Like the Maid

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is one of the richest people in Congress. And that’s saying something.

Apparently, she’s treating Kellyanne like a peasant.

According to the Washington Examiner:

White House counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway slammed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Thursday morning, claiming Pelosi treats her like she might treat the help.

“I believe she’s the sixth, or so, richest member of Congress, and she behaves that way,” Conway told reporters gathered on the White House driveway. “She treats me as she might treat her maid or her pilots or her makeup artists or her wardrobe consultants.”

Conway’s comments came after Pelosi, during an ill-fated infrastructure meeting on Wednesday in which President Trump abruptly walked out, reportedly told Conway she spoke to the president and not his staff. “I told her, ‘Gee, that’s so pro-woman of you,'” Conway said.

Trump Blows Up Meeting with Schumer and Pelosi

This is pretty funny.

President Trump dragged Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi down Pennsylvania Avenue for what was supposed to be an infrastructure meeting. Then he threw them out and held a press conference in the Rose Garden about how they are unjustly investigating him, and he’s not doing any infrastructure until they cut it out.

A brilliant PR stunt by the master.

According to the Washington Examiner:

President Trump canceled a scheduled meeting on infrastructure with Democrats on Wednesday, saying he was upset about claims he engaged in a coverup and Democrats’ use of “the I word” — meaning impeachment.

“Instead of walking in happily into a meeting, I walk in to look at people that have just said that I was doing a cover-up. I don’t do cover-ups,” Trump said, speaking in the Rose Garden about 25 minutes after the scheduled start of the meeting with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

Trump said he was particularly upset about Pelosi suggesting he engaged in a coverup during special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

“I walked into the room and I told Sen. Schumer, Speaker Pelosi, ‘I want to do infrastructure. I want to do it more than you want to do it. I would be really good at that. That’s what I do. But you know what? You can’t do it under these circumstances. So get these phony investigations over with,'” Trump said.

Barr to Pelosi: Got Handcuffs?

Attorney General William Barr was cited for contempt by the House Judiciary Committee last week for failing to deliver a document he is not only not required to provide, but legally prevented from handing out.

Even though he had to release nothing, Barr gave Congress almost all of the Mueller report. He withheld small portions of tit that included grand jury testimony, which he is not supposed to release.

Anyway, he’s got a sense of humor about it.

According to the Washington Examiner:

Barr asked Speaker Nancy Pelosi whether she planned to arrest him when he appeared on the west front of the Capitol to commemorate the National Peace Officers Memorial service on Wednesday.

Barr, who was on a platform with congressional leaders as they awaited President Trump’s arrival, approached Speaker Pelosi and shook her hand, a bystander said. Apparently joking, he said loudly: “Madam Speaker, did you bring your handcuffs?”

The bystander said: “The speaker, not missing a beat, smiled and indicated to the attorney general that the House sergeant at arms was present at the ceremony should an arrest be necessary. The attorney general chuckled and walked away.”

AOC Disagrees With Pelosi, Wants to Impeach Trump

Every committee in the House is investigating President Trump. The entire caucus is desperate to impeach him.

But a couple of the sane people in the room – relatively sane people, anyway – understand that this will backfire on Democrats.

But unfortunately for the Democrats, the inmates are running the asylum. And there are a lot more inmates than doctors and nurses, and there’s no medication either.

According to the Washington Examiner:

House Democrats aren’t giving up on attempting to impeach President Trump, even though Speaker Nancy Pelosi all but dismissed it in an interview published Monday.

“I happen to disagree with that take,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, D-N.Y., told the Washington Examiner Monday night, responding to the Pelosi interview. “But you know, she’s the speaker. … I think we’ll see.”

Pelosi told the Washington Post she doesn’t support the House trying to impeach Trump. “He’s just not worth it,” the California Democrat said in the interview.

Pelosi’s comments contradict the views of many House Democrats who are eager to pursue a path to impeachment, either from the findings of special counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing probe or new, broad House investigations that will examine Trump’s business dealings and potential conflicts of interest.

Pelosi Offers Trump “Normandy Fencing”

I don’t know. Might stop some cattle from illegally immigrating. According to the Washington Examiner: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Thursday she could support a border security deal that adds new Normandy fencing along about 30 miles of open border. But she won’t bring a bill to the floor that includes Trump’s vision for a… Continue Reading

Trump Cancels Pelosi’s Junket To Europe and the Middle East

President Trump Thursday abruptly canceled a trip by Nancy Pelosi and other lawmakers to Brussels, Egypt and Afghanistan. According to reports, the delegation was to leave at 3:00 pm Thursday. The cancellation letter was released by the White House just after 2:00 pm. The White House says Pelosi & Co. are free to travel commercial,… Continue Reading

Pelosi Suggests Trump Scrap His State of the Union Address

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Wednesday said President Trump should consider scheduling the State of the Union address after the shutdown is over or send it in writing, citing security concerns. I’d say the main thing going on here, beside a gratuitous insult, is that Pelosi wants to deny Trump the biggest soapbox of the year… Continue Reading
