A friend of mine made this point, so I can’t claim it for my own. But it’s a great one.
Sure, Trump canceled Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Europe and the Middle East in retaliation for her suggestion he not give the State of the Union address. The press, of course, is characterizing all this as petty and childish. They didn’t so much when Pelosi made her move, but now that Trump has responded, that’s the theme.
But actually, this is why Trump was elected. Washington politicians are petty and demeaning to each other all the time. It’s just, they couch it in nice words and try to pretend they are helping the country instead of themselves.
Trump, despite all the lies he tells, is in a sense much more honest. He doesn’t try to hide what he thinks or what he is doing. He was elected to plow through all the Washington BS and represent regular guys and gals because he is, despite his wealth and other attributes, a regular guy.
Politicians stab each other in the back. Trump stabs you in the front and talks to you about it while your bleeding. Which brings me to another point.
Trump’s rule of thumb is that if someone hits you, you hit them back three times as hard. By publicly humilating Pelosi in this way, not to mention screwing up all her plans, he lets her and others know taht he is not to be messed with.
President Trump Thursday abruptly canceled a trip by Nancy Pelosi and other lawmakers to Brussels, Egypt and Afghanistan.
According to reports, the delegation was to leave at 3:00 pm Thursday. The cancellation letter was released by the White House just after 2:00 pm. The White House says Pelosi & Co. are free to travel commercial, but will not have access to military jets the would take on the trip.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Wednesday said President Trump should consider scheduling the State of the Union address after the shutdown is over or send it in writing, citing security concerns.
I’d say the main thing going on here, beside a gratuitous insult, is that Pelosi wants to deny Trump the biggest soapbox of the year to make his case on the shutdown and the border wall.
“Sadly, given the security concerns and unless government re-opens this week, I suggest that we work together to determine another suitable date after government has re-opened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to the Congress,” she wrote Trump.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary KirstJen Nielsen said security was no problem.
“The Department of Homeland Security and the US Secret Service are fully prepared to support and secure the State of the Union. We thank the Service for their mission focus and dedication and for all they do each day to secure our homeland,” Nielsen tweeted.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday didn’t rule out the possibility of broad immigration reform deal to end an impasse between Democrats and President Trump over border wall funding.
When asked if she’s open to exchanging border wall funding for a deal to legalize Dreamers, those younger immigrants who came to the U.S. illegally as children, she said, “We have always stood ready to discuss comprehensive immigration reform and, of course, the Dreamers.”
She told reporters, however, that Democrats and the Trump administration “haven’t had that discussion” and are instead caught in a fight over the wall funding.
Efforts to resolve a government shutdown fight have been at a standstill since Saturday, when Democrats rejected a White House proposal that reduced President Trump’s $5 billion demand for a border wall and offered flexibility on just how solid the wall needed to be.
According to a senior White House official, White House negotiators led by Vice President Mike Pence and White House senior adviser Jared Kushner huddled with Democrats on Capitol Hill Saturday and proposed between $1.6 billion and $5 billion in funds for a “physical barrier” that would include “fencing, a wall, and steel slats.”
This, the official acknowledged, meant not all the funding would have to be used for a “wall.”
We all know the Lord works in mysterious ways. But if Al Sharpton saved America, then the Lord works in completely inscrutable ways.
Anyway, we can be pretty sure this is not true, because Pelosi peppered her remarks with several other obvious lies. “We’re going to be visionary, we’re going to be unifying, we’re going to be healing, we’re going be transparent in how we do this, we’re going to be respectful of other views,” she said.
The Democrats, of course, are going to be none of these things.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, fighting for her current job and to be Speaker if Democrats take the House, knows she needs to appease the left-wing lunatics taking over the Democratic Party, and so she’s decided to start speaking their language.
During an interview Sunday on MSNBC, she said:
Let me remind you that when the Republicans took power when President Obama was president of the United States, what Mitch McConnell said is, ‘The most important thing we can do is to make sure he does not succeed.’ If that wasn’t a racist statement. That is unthinkable.
Pelosi is not genius, but she’s not dumb either. She gets that merely criticizing Barack Obama isn’t by definition racist. And she probably – although maybe not – understands the terrible road we’re going down when every criticism of a black person is described as racist, and people take the description seriously.
Of course, it’s disastrous for the cause of free speech. But it’s particularly bad for African Americans, because they can become excluded from the normal give and take of debate when attacking them becomes something racist. The last thing, as a Jew, I would want is for someone who criticized me to be accused of anti-Semiticism – assuming they didn’t preface it with, “Hey Jewboy, listen to this” – because then they would be afraid to debate me and wouldn’t engage me honestly. I would learn nothing from them, and I would not be able to have a serious discussion.
The Washington Post “Fact Checker,” which is sometimes less partisan than the rest of the Post’s newsroom, gave Pelosi’s comment the maximum “Four Pinnochio’s,” meaning they consider it an outright lie.
Well, there will be many more such lies to come. Politico notes that the Democratic 2020 presidential crowd is trying to one-up each other with race baiting:
Some of the party’s top potential 2020 candidates are testing a barrage of early — and unusually explicit — race-related appeals in the run-up to the next presidential campaign. Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) pledged not to be “shut up” by critics of “identity politics.” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), has drawn attention to the disproportionate number of nonwhite people incarcerated in a system he said has “criminalized poverty.”
Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) invoked Martin Luther King Jr. when he called unemployment a “form of brutality.” And while Booker described inequities in the criminal justice system as “the biggest cancer on the soul of this country,” Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) called the system “racist … front to back.”
Of course, Politico doesn’t call it “race-baiting.” Unlike the Post, which sticks to the facts of the case, it describes the Democrats as simply responding to President Trump whom, the Post suggests through others it quotes, is the actual race-baiter. Politico’s “reporting” that there is a justification to the barrage of racial antagonism about to be sowed by the Democrats for votes over the next two years is a disservice to society.
Maybe next we’ll find her outside the Capitol playing Three-card Monte with passersby.
I can’t for the life of me understand how this does not qualify as a genuine, vintage, unabashed scam. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi keeps sending out emails with a subject line saying she’s not trying to pick your pocket. But the email includes a link that leads you to a page that demands money.
Ostensibly, she just wants your opinion. It’s a poll, see?
For the purposes of gathering news, I’m on various Democratic email lists. Pelosi is sending me missives from the House Democrats’ fundraising arm, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee – now that’s your first hint she actually wants money – asking me to complete a poll.
On June 22, I got an email titled, “NOT asking for money.”
Now that sounds pretty clear to me. After some political gibberish, she gets to the point with a line at the end of the email: “Please, before midnight — will you complete your survey? Your voice is more important than you know.”
If you click on the link, you find that Ms. Pelosi is indeed conducting a survey, of Democrats, including such scientifically derived questions as, “Do you oppose the Republican Party’s heartless budget?” and “Did you know that the Republican budget includes $4 BILLION in cuts to Social Security?” The choices for answering the latter question are, “Yes, it’s awful” and “No, but I do now.”
Scroll to the end of the short poll, and you find what is obviously the question she most sincerely wants an answer to: “Will you pitch in $3 (or more!) to support the DCCC in its mission to help Democrats take back the House?”
You’re given five choices with different amounts, including your own. Surprisingly enough, each response starts with “Yes!”
Nancy, I thought you weren’t asking for money?
On June 24 she was back with an email titled, “need input NOT money” noting, “My new budget survey is the most critical I’ve sent to you all year — but my records show you haven’t responded to me yet.”
Again, there’s a link to a survey that ends with a cash grab. And most recently, on July 11, the same subject line, this time corrected with a comma, ‘need input, NOT money.” Same deal on the survey.
I gather the attorneys could claim that she is merely seeking your opinion about whether you want to contribute, not asking you to!
But in places where people try to be honest, this is what is called bait and switch.
And Democrats accuse President Trump of running a con . . .
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer Monday issues a feckless repudiation of Maxine Waters, failing to even name her and saying President Trump does the exact same thing as she did. “No one should call for the harassment of political opponents. That’s not right, and that’s not American,” Schumer said, without pointing the finger directly at… Continue Reading
Pelosi spoke at her regular press briefing: They’re doing away with children being with their moms. I just don’t even know why there aren’t uprising all over the country, and maybe there will be when people realize that this is a policy that they defend. That’s the House minority leader, basically calling for uprisings. About… Continue Reading
President Trump Tuesday was as colorful as usual speaking at a MAGA rally in Nashville. Also, Mexico is still paying for the wall “And they’re going to enjoy it.” Au contraire! tweeted Mexico’s president. President @realDonaldTrump: NO. Mexico will NEVER pay for a wall. Not now, not ever. Sincerely, Mexico (all of us). — Enrique… Continue Reading
