As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

Graham Rips Hirono During Barr Hearing

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., let annoying Hawaii Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono know just what he thought of her line of questioning as her time expired during a Judiciary Committee hearing featuring Attorney General Robert Barr.

“You have slandered this man from top to bottom,” Graham told Hirono. “If you want more of this you’re not going to get it. If you want to ask him questions, you can.”

HIrono replied: “You certainly have your opinion and I have mine.”

Hirono had earlier called President Trump a “grifter” and said Barr should resign.

“Mr. Barr, now the American people know that you’re no different than Rudy Giuliani or Kellyanne Conway or any of the other people who sacrificed their once-decent reputation for the grifter and liar who sits in the Oval Office,” Hirono said. “Being attorney general of the United States is a sacred trust. You have betrayed that trust. America deserves better. You should resign.”

Republicans Finally Ready to Investigate Obama DOJ, FBI

I don’t know what’s with the Senate Republicans. They have the same investigative powers as House Democrats, and they mostly sit on their asses.

But Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, no doubt after a chat or two with President Trump, is going to get the ball rolling. The press, of course, is completely uninterested in whether the Obama administration — as opposed to the Russians — colluded with the Clinton campaign to swing the election.

But Graham seems to care.

According to Politico:

Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham said Monday that he has plans for an aggressive oversight probe and is even hoping to convince the attorney general to appoint a second special counsel. The South Carolina Republican announced Monday he will investigate whether the Justice Department and FBI influenced the 2016 election to stop Trump, arguing it has not been appropriately probed in comparison to the Trump campaign’s interactions with Russian officials.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chair of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said he’s ready to back him up. Graham specifically cited the decisions made to surveil the Trump campaign in 2016 and its handling of the uncorroborated Steele Dossier. “I’m going to get answers to this. If no one else cares, it seems that Republicans do. Because if the shoe were on the other foot, it would be front page news all over the world. The double standard here has been striking and quite frankly disappointing,” Graham said.

Graham’s list of grievances ran long during a 30-minute new conference on Monday morning: He complained about anti-Trump bias in federal law enforcement agencies, lack of media interest in the FBI and DOJ’s handling of the election, why Trump wasn’t informed former campaign aide Carter Page was being watched and what role former FBI Director James Comey played in the saga.

And while Graham said his committee hopes to hear from Comey and other officials about the department’s handling of the election, Graham is hoping Attorney General William Barr chooses “somebody like a Mr. Mueller to look at that.” He said that would take the politics out of the equation, given that the Senate GOP investigation is unlikely to get the same sort of public support that a nonpartisan probe would receive from the public.

The investigation would look into “whether those who believed that the FBI and the Department of Justice were playing politics, that they wanted Clinton to win and Trump to lose, that somebody can satisfy them,” Graham said. “By any reasonable standard, Mr. Mueller thoroughly investigated the Trump campaign. You cannot say that about the other side of the story.” Graham implored Barr to “understand for the country’s sake: Appoint somebody outside the current system to look into these allegations, somebody we all trust and let them do what Mr. Mueller did.”

Lindsey Graham to Take DNA Test to See If He’s More Native American Than Warren

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., is a lot of fun. He has a certain joie de vivre, sense of humor, and mischievousness that I enjoy, even if sometimes he’s too moderate for my taste.

Now he’s decided to take a blood test to see if one of his relatives slept with a Native American way back.

“I’m going to take a DNA test,” Graham told “Fox and Friends” Tuesday. “I’ve been told my grandmother was part Cherokee Indian. It may all just be talk.”

I’ll bet we all have some kind of weirdness in our DNA we were never aware of. How could it be that Jews like me, for example, have fair skin when they’re an Asian race? Well, they lived in Europe for centuries, and guess what musta been goin’ on . . . not all of it was kept within The Tribe, apparently.

And how about the other part of Sen. Warren’s ancestry? It’s all white folks. I’m willing to be she has more people in her background who were killing Native Americans or oppressing blacks than she does Native Americans.

What about that part of her heritage? I’ll be she didn’t put “Plantation Owner” on her resume.

Graham says he wants not just the $1 million Warren thinks she was promised from Trump if she took a test – she wasn’t – but a casino too.

Graham Warns that Trump is Serious About Attacking North Korea

Sen. Lindsey Graham Tuesday warned that President Trump is seriously mulling an attack on North Korea and that he will not allow Kin Jong Un to be able to hit the United States with a nuclear missile.

The Chinese are miscalculating Trump, and so are the North Koreans,” Graham said.

“They’re wrong,” Graham said when told there was “no good military option” with respect to military action against North Korea. “There is a military option to destroy North Korea’s program and North Korea itself. He’s not going to allow, President Trump, the ability of this madman to have a missile hit America. If there’s going to be a war to stop him, it will be over there. If thousands die, they’re going to die over there, they’re not going to die here and he’s told me that to my face.

“And that may be provocative, but not really. When you’re president of the United States, where does your allegiance lie? To the people of the United States. This man, Kim Jong Un, is threatening America with a nuclear tip missile. President Trump doesn’t want a war, the Chinese can stop this, but to China, South Korea, and Japan, Donald Trump is not going to allow this missile.”

Finally we have a president who is serious about ending this threat. War is going to be terrible, though perhaps, hopefully, given our capabilities, not as terrible as everyone thinks. But the bottom line is we cannot allow Kim Jong Un to presdent an existential treat to the United States.

Graham’s comments on North Korea pick up at about the 5:00 mark.

Graham: Mueller Has Concluded There is No Obstruction of Justice Case

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., no fan of President Trump, says special counsel Robert Mueller must have concluded there is no obstruction of justice case against Trump, because if he thought there was, he wouldn’t let his “star witness” James Comey testify before Congress.

I don’t know if this is correct, but I do know that Graham is not the kind of Republican who would reflexively defend Trump. He’s not a partisan and Trump has gone after him and his close Senate friend, John McCain, in a personal manner. Rather, Graham would be one of the first to go if Republicans ever decide, as they did with Richard Nixon, that they could no longer support the president against impeachment.

Video || Lindsey Graham Destroys His Cell Phone

Lindsey Graham made this cute video of him using various methods to destroy his cell phone after The Donald gave out his cell phone number.

Fine, a nice little bit of PR for Lindsey, courtesy of Trump. But I’d like to know what Graham’s doing with a cell phone that was probably used by Woodrow Wilson. I mean, seriously, a flip phone?

This of course disqualifies him to be president, unless he’d like to run retroactively in the 1916 election.

To his credit, I will say Graham looks like he can make pretty good use of a golf club – as noticed by one of our readers, Ron March. And his baseball swing doesn’t seem half bad either.

Graham: Lying Scumbags Lurk the White House

Gosh. Even stronger that I would do. I mean, Washington is filled with liars. And it has its share of scumbags. But both in the same package! And in the White House no less – now this is news.

This one’s a few days old, but it doesn’t seem to have gotten much play and frankly, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a U.S. senator refer to White House officials as “scumbags.”

Unless someone said that about Bill Clinton. I mean, there’s just no getting around it. He was indeed a scumbag. And clearly he lied. So that made him a lying scumbag. Honestly, I’m sorry to say it.

Now he’s a vegetarian and everything’s cool.

Also, this piece goes too nicely with the piece below, since Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) are compadres.

No, not that kind of compadres.

Anyhoo, Graham, as he himself noted in this radio interview last week with Mike Gallagher, is getting primaried by a bunch of Tea Party challengers. He looks like he will win the June 10 primary, but one can never be too careful.

So, while I accept Graham’s claim that he’d have been all over Benghazi even without the primary challenge, the colorful language is surely meant to convince the base that he knows a lying scumbag when he sees one.

From the show:

Some guy said this about me yesterday on the left: The only reason I cared about this was because I have six tea party opponents. Well, if that’s true, I’m the biggest scumbag in America. I don’t think that’s true. I know it’s not true.

It would be almost impossible for Lindsey Graham — given who I am and what I’ve been doing for the last 20 years — not to care about those in harm’s way, who get killed . . .  and the scumbags are the people in the White House who lied about this.

Graham: “For God’s Sakes,” Form a Benghazi Committee

Republican leaders are very reliable. They can always be relied upon to screw up an advantage.

Take the Obamacare debacle. Where’s the great “I Told You So” campaign, to make it clear to the public that the reason the Republicans shut down the government was to delay Obamacare by a year and AVOID THE VERY FIASCO NOW ENSUING with the website?

Where’s the “Isn’t Government a Wonder to Behold?” campaign to highlight the abject failure of your government to even put together a website, let alone run your health care.

These are obvious moves that a smart political operation – like the one President Obama has – would make to capitalize on its opponents missteps.

And where is the select Congressional panel to investigate Benghazi?

Sure, Republicans would have great political fun with such a panel, which the Democrats would have convened a year ago and tasked to issue a final report the eve of Election Day, 2014.

But the Benghazi episode, as shown once again in a new report by 60 Minutes, is a deadly serious matter in which American heroes were killed and for which senior administration officials may bear responsibility. The public HAS A RIGHT TO KNOW whether top officials, including President Obama, failed our brave people on the ground in Libya.

Some of the House panels are doing a good job probing this. But only a select committee will unify the effort, eliminate inefficiencies, and generate the public interest to force a serious investigation.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) today demanded that House Speaker John Boehner pull together a select committee, at least on the House side – Senate Democrats would never go along – to spearhead the probe. And he vowed to muck up the Senate until the Benghazi survivors are heard from.

He said:

For God’s sakes, let the House have a select committee where you get three or four committees together to look at this situation as one unit, rather than stove piping.

And where are the survivors? Fourteen months later . . . the people who survived the attack in Benghazi have not been  made available to the U.S. Congress for oversight purposes. So I’m going to block every appointment in the United State Senate until the survivors are being made available in Congress . . .

To Speaker Boehner, please, for God’s sakes, form a joint committee to get away from this blame game to find out exactly what happened.

And where was Hillary Clinton during all these multiple requests for security?  . . . And who the Hell told Susan Rice this story about a protest gone bad, and who told the president there was no evidence of a pre-planned terrorist attack in light of all this information?

Or who told him there was evidence?
