Sad. I’ve worked with John at the White House and admired his hosting on CNN. Thought he was an honest, objective newsman.
Too bad he lets himself become just another partisan Democrat certain their opinions are facts. I guess he’s been co-opted into the poisonous liberal culture at CNN, which pretends to play it straight, but which has become as bad as MSNBC.
Which makes it worse than MSNBC, which at least doesn’t pretend.
Okay, here’s a moment of serious journalistic integrity.
John King of CNN, which like TBS – which runs Samantha Bee’s show – is owned by Turner Broadcasting, called on the company to apologize to Ivanka Trump for Bee’s use of the “C” word to describe her.
“Apologize. Apologize.” King said to Bee after describing Bee’s comment as “vile” and “reprehensible.” Then King added: “And the company, forgive me, I work here, but the company should say something too.”
Maybe they were watching, because after half a day of nothing, both Turner Broadcasting and Bee soon apologized.
John King is an excellent journalist who, as far as I can tell, continues to adhere to the old rule that you should at least strive to be objective. Unfortunately, he is surrounded by others who appear on TV and write for major newspapers who have no idea what that’s all about.
They are what used to be known as “hacks” and are now known as “journalists.”
King’s call, out of principle, for his own company to apologize is an act of courage you don’t often see in a town far more notable for weasely climbers and sycophants.
The comment comes at the very end of the segment below, at the 4:30 mark.
“I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it,” Bee subsequently said in a statement.
“Samantha Bee has taken the right action in apologizing for the vile and inappropriate language she used about Ivanka Trump last night,” Turner Broadcasting wrote. “Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it.”
Those are pretty good apologies. Not the typical, “If anyone was offended . . . ” pseudo-regrets. Of course, the show should be canceled for such vileness, but society apparently has “evolved” to the point where these things are permitted.
Here’s what Bee had said:
“Ivanka Trump, who works at the White House, chose to post the second most oblivious tweet we’ve seen this week,” Bee said, saying Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet about Valerie Jarrett was the first.
“You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless c***!”
She added that President Trump listens to Ivanka and that she should, “Put on something tight and low-cut and tell your father to f***ing stop it. Tell him it was an Obama thing and see how it goes, OK?”
