Jeff Sessions Out as Attorney General

President Trump Wednesday announced via Twitter that Attorney General Jeff Sessions is being replaced by his own chief of staff, who will serve on a temporary basis.

Sessions himself made clear that he was fired.

“At your request, I am submitting my resignation,” he wrote in an undated letter to the president.

“Since the day I was honored to be sworn in as Attorney General of the United States, I came to work at the Department of Justice every day determined to do my duty and serve my country. I have done so to the best of my ability, working to support the fundamental legal processes that are the foundation of justice.”

At least one report says that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who supervises the Mueller investigation, will stay.

Mainstream Media Deception: Sessions Did NOT “Join” in a “Lock Her Up” Chant

Here is a perfect example of why conservatives think – or more accurately, know – that the media are biased against them and out to get President Trump.

There have been widespread suggestions in the mainstream media that Attorney General Jeff Sessions joined in chants to lock up Hillary Clinton. Take a close look at this story by Politico, titled, “Attorney General Sessions joins ‘lock her up!’ chant in front of high school students.” It is both false and purposely misleading.

Here’s part of it:

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions briefly joined in during a “Lock her up!” chant while delivering a speech to a group of conservative high school students on Tuesday, marking the latest example of President Donald Trump and his aides making aggressive gestures toward their political rivals.

Sessions was speaking about freedom of speech on college campuses when the chant broke out at the Turning Point USA High School Leadership Summit at George Washington University . . .

Chuckling and repeating the chant once himself, Sessions then attempted to move on before saying, “I heard that a long time over the last campaign.”

The remarkable comment by an attorney general of the United States follows other moves by Trump and his aides that have alarmed not only Trump critics but other fellow Republicans.

Now, once you look at the video below, you will see it is very clear that Sessions is not “joining” any chant. He is, a single time, repeating something he has heard. He says it humorously, hardly, as the ostensibly unbiased Politico “news” story contends, an “aggressive gesture.” He’s just chuckling at it, not echoing it or validating it, as many reported. Several headlines say he “repeated” it, which while technically correct, also misleadingly suggests he joined in. He did not.

Then there’s this from Politico:

“I like this bunch, I gotta tell ya, you’re not going to be backing down. Go get ‘em! Go get em’!” Sessions said, when the audience started yelling “Lock her up!” — a staple of Trump’s political rallies that refers to Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state.

This is simply not true. It suggests that his “I like this bunch . . . go get ’em” comment was made in response to the audience saying lock her up, or at the very least contemporaneously with the chant. But it’s clear in the video that his comment is made well before “lock her up” begins.

Very sad. Keep this in mind next time you hear journalists claiming the media are “just doing their job.” Unless for some reason they’re under the impression their job is to elect Democrats.

Sessions: Aliens Know Bringing Children Frees Them — and So They Bring More

What is brain surgery about this?

The message has been clear. If you want to be released into the United States after being caught illegally crossing the border, bring your children on the perilous journey with you and then falsely seek asylum.

Is that a humane message?

And so the number of kids being brought across has increased.

So President Trump is enforcing the law instead of just releasing people, demanding that their asylum cases be adjudicated first. This forces the separation of parents and children, since children don’t get put in jail.

The most humane way to solve this is not to stop enforcing the law, since that would continue to encourage people to bring their kids with them. It’s to change the law to allow children and adults to stay together while asylum claims are evaluated. That’s what Republicans are proposing to do.

But Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are already protesting that they don’t want to change the law. Because that would deprive them of a great political issue, and they want illegal immigrants released because one day they’ll be card-carrying Democrats.

So who is being inhumane here, Republicans who want to change the law or Democrats who want an issue?

Maybe it’s time for conservatives to go protest in front of Schumer and Pelosi’s offices to take a stand against their inhumanity. And to go on TV and call them feckless – but just feckless, nothing more. Conservatives aren’t animals.

From Sessions’ op-ed today in USA Today:

Some years ago, it was decided that law enforcement might arrest adults who crossed the border illegally by themselves, but anyone who brought a child with them would not be prosecuted, a form of immunity.

Word got out about this loophole with predictable results. The number of aliens illegally crossing with children between our ports of entry went from 14,000 to 75,000 — a fivefold increase — in just the past four years . . .

Ending this blanket immunity means prosecuting adults for illegal entry whether they have children with them or not. That is what we are doing at the Department of Justice.

Separations are temporary and rare. The vast majority of children in custody came to this country by themselves.

Many unaccompanied children have been abused by smugglers or recruited by criminal gangs such as MS-13. There is nothing humane about encouraging human trafficking — but that is what open borders policies do. Everything the Trump administration is doing is helping put traffickers out of business.

If people have a genuine asylum claim, they can come to a port of entry, make their claim legally, and remain with their children while their case is processed.

We do not want to separate parents from their children. What we want is a safe, lawful system of immigration that would end this question altogether.

Sessions to Toughen Standard for Asylum Claims

Attorney General Jeff Sessions today is announcing a decision to limit asylum claims in order to stop people from claiming asylum simply because they don’t like the country they’re in.

From a speech in Virginia before immigration judges.

Under the INA, asylum is available for those who leave their home country because of persecution or fear on account of race, religion, nationality or membership in a particular social group or political opinion . . . Asylum was never meant to alleviate all problems, even all serious problems that people face every day all over the world . . . So today, I’m exercising the responsibility given to me under the INA, and I will be issuing a decision that restores strong principles of asylum and longstanding principles of immigration law.

Trump may be furious at Sessions for recusing himself from the Russian investigation and allowing the appointment of a special counsel, but Sessions is also completely devoted to Trump’s agenda.

Trump Says He Wishes He Didn’t Make Sessions Attorney General

Chris Christie, pack your bags for Washington.

President Trump Wednesday tweeted that he wished he had picked someone else to be attorney general. I expect Sessions to resign soon. Maybe today. This is as clear a vote of no-confidence as any president could provide without actually firing someone.

Sessions: Federal Prosecutor Probing FBI; No Special Counsel fo Now

According to CNN:

Attorney General Jeff Sessions revealed Thursday that Utah’s top federal prosecutor, John Huber, is investigating a cluster of Republican-driven accusations against the FBI and has decided that no second special counsel is needed — at least for now.

Huber has been looking into allegations that the FBI abused its powers in surveilling a former Trump campaign adviser, and more should have been done to investigate Hillary Clinton’s ties to a Russian nuclear energy agency, but his identity had remained a secret.
But Sessions’ decision to stop short of formally appointing a special counsel like Robert Mueller, detailed in a lengthy written response to three Republican chairmen on Capitol Hill, will likely anger those in the GOP who have recently ramped up calls to investigate claims of political bias at the nation’s top law enforcement agencies.

Sessions said he will rely on Huber’s review to determine if a special counsel is needed . . .

It also comes one day after the Justice Department’s internal watchdog office confirmed it would review how the FBI obtained a warrant to monitor Trump foreign policy aide Carter Page, as well as the bureau’s relationship with Christopher Steele, the author of the Trump dossier.

FBI’s McCabe Was Investigating Attorney General Sessions

Gee, I wonder if the FBI ever investigated Eric Holder for his possible perjury before Congress. I think not. This is what we paranoid conservatives mean by the Deep State. From ABC News: Nearly a year before Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired senior FBI official Andrew McCabe for what Sessions called a “lack of candor,”… Continue Reading

Here is Why Trump Needs Jeff Sessions

Because he will take actions like this. The Department of Justice is suing California over state laws that prohibit businesses and police from cooperating with federal authorities trying to enforce immigration law. The federal government has clear jurisdiction over immigration matters. Sanctuary cities are sanctuaries for illegal immigrants, but not for the Constitution. Sessions is… Continue Reading

Sessions Gives Sanctuary Cities a Final Warning

This is why President Trump needs to put aside his frustrations with Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who handed the Russia “collusion” investigation over to a special prosecutor who will look into every crevice of the West Wing trying to find wrongdoing. Because Sessions is the best person to implement Trump’s immigration policy, which was a… Continue Reading

Sessions: “This Nation Must End this Culture of Leaks”

I’ve never seen anythink like this. It’s like a candy store for journalists. It’s so obvious that people within the administration with allegiance to Barack Obama are trying to take this White House down. The press claims the Trump people are leaking against each other, which may be true, but I doubt it goes as… Continue Reading
