Trump Eulogy for Cokie Roberts: “She Never Treated Me Nicely”

That’s what you gotta love about President Trump. He doesn’t do polite and phony.

I used to watch Cokie Roberts when she was on the TV, on ABC’s “This Week” years ago, back in the David Brinkley days, and I never liked her much. I’ve forgotten why, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen her. I think it had something to do with liberal, conventional-wisdom commentary. I remember a friend once saying, “Oh, Cokie Roberts is on, should I turn it off? I know you don’t like seeing her.”

But she seemed like a good person. Sad to lose her.

Never liked David Brinkley much either. He made these little sarcastic comments about how foolish people were and was much less clever than he thought. Maybe he was once a great journalist, but by the time I saw him he was like butler opening the door to the show.

So why did I even watch that show? Probably George Will. Wouldn’t watch it today for him, unfortunately.

Anyway, Cokie Roberts, RIP.

From the Washington Examiner.

President Trump said that Cokie Roberts never “treated me nicely” but added that he wanted to “wish her family well” following the veteran journalist’s death on Tuesday morning.

Roberts, 75, was an award-winning journalist, best-selling author, and on-air political commentator. She is a member of the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame.

Trump addressed her death while speaking to the pool reporters during his flight to California on Tuesday afternoon.

“I never met her. She never treated me nicely. But I would like to wish her family well. She was a professional, and I respect professionals. I respect you guys a lot, you people a lot. She was a real professional,” Trump stated.

Roberts is survived by her husband Steven V. Roberts, to whom she was married since 1966. They had two children and six grandchildren.
