As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

Chris Christie to lead Trump opioid commission

President Trump will launch a commission on Wednesday aimed at combating the nation’s burgeoning opioid epidemic and ensuring federal resources are being used appropriately to address the problem, a White House official told the Washington Examiner.

The announcement comes the same day that Trump, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi and others are set to participate in a White House listening session on opioid and drug abuse.

Christie, whose final term expires next January, is expected to head the commission. Several members of Trump’s Cabinet, including Veteran Affairs Secretary David Shulkin, Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, are likely to be involved in some capacity.

Christie May Have Just Lost His Chance to be Attorney General

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has had such a fall from grace. He is no longer popular in New Jersey. He lost badly in the Republican primaries. He didn’t make the cut to be Donald Trump’s vice presidential nominee. And now, he is probably off the list for attorney general should Trump win on Tuesday.

Bridget Anne Kelly, Christie’s former deputy chief of staff, and Bill Baroni, the former deputy executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, were both found guilty late Friday morning of  charges that included conspiracy, fraud, and civil rights deprivation in the “Bridgegate” case, in which traffic was intentionally tied up near the George Washington Bridge to harm a Christie political opponent.

Christie glued himself to Trump after he dropped out of the primaries. But he seemed to distance himself after the video emerged of Trump talking with Billy Bush about grabbing women’s private parts. Perhaps, though, he still had hope of playing a significant role in a Trump administration, either within the White House or as attorney general.

It would seem impossible for Trump to make Christie the AG after Kelly, one of his closest aides, was convicted of conspiracy and fraud.

Christie was supposed to be Trump. He was the tough-talking, politically incorrect, no-nonsense fella who was going to take it to the Democrats. But he got out-Christied by Trump, who usurped Christie’s role as tough guy, even making Christie seem diminutive by comparison. And now it seems he’ll have to slog through one more year as governor before putting his name on the masthead of some New Jersey law firm and appearing occasionally on Fox News to remind himself of what things used to be like.

Of course, who knows? In America, there are always second acts.

Christie: Bridgegate Part of Reason Trump Didn’t Select Me for VP

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says that the “Bridgegate” scandal — in which his aides are accused of creating a traffic jam on the George Washington Bridge as payback against another politician — was definitely a factor in him not being selected as Donald Trump’s running mate.

“I’m sure it was a factor,” Christie told NBC’s Brian Williams. Christie said he didn’t know how much of a factor it was, saying Williams would have to ask Trump. Christie also denied any wrongdoing.

Christie also denied any wrongdoing. “No one has ever been able to prove that I knew anything or had any role in it,” Christie said

Video || Christie Indicts Hillary Clinton

Because someone has to.

Here’s the attack dog Trump could have had on his ticket.

Gov. Chris Christie last night gave an effective denunciation of Hillary Clinton. One of his best lines, I thought, was this:

We cannot promote someone to commander-in-chief who has made the world a more violent and dangerous place with every bad judgment she’s made.

It addresses a legitimate concern people have about Trump — that it’s dangerous to put someone who seems erratic, unpredictable, uninformed, and vengeful in the Oval Office. Christie is telling you to look at the world and how dangerous it has become. Are you really safer from war and destruction with Hillary Clinton in charge?

Christie: 93 Percent of Melania’s Speech is Different than Michelle’s!

How unintentionally hilarious is that?

This is like saying you wouldn’t prosecute a home invader because, you know, look at all the stuff he didn’t steal! Not that I think Melania should be prosecuted — in the press or the courts — this most likely fell like rotted fruit out of the campaign, as I wrote.

Gov. Chris Christie has gone from a man widely hailed as a New Jersey GOP tough guy to Donald Trump’s Toady-in-Chief. I mean, how badly could someone want to be attorney general?

A former prosecutor, Chistie he wouldn’t be able to make the case for plagiarism, “not when 93 percent of the speech is completely different.”

“I know Melania. I think she worked very hard on that speech. A lot of what I heard last night sitting on the floor sounded very much like her and the way she speaks about Donald all the time,” Christie told NBC’s TODAY.

Chris Christie’s Can-Do Claptrap

It’s accepted always as a given in Washington that “gridlock” is a terrible thing and that our elected leaders need to do better at “getting things done” and “working together.” Because we are a nation of doers. “What do you do?” is our way of saying “Who are you?” One of the more pathetic laments you can hear from… Continue Reading

White House Aligns with Christie on Vaccines

The White House today offered up an opinion on measles vaccinations that appears all but identical to that of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, suggesting that laws and mandates should not be created to force people to get the vaccine. Under repeated questioning, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest today refused to say President Obama… Continue Reading
