Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen Monday backed up claims by President Trump that Middle Easterners are in the caravans headed toward the United States from Central America.
We absolutely see people from the Middle East, from southeast Asia, from other parts of the world — these are not just from Central America.
She indicated the presence of Middle Easterners would not be surprising.
What I can tell you is we stopped 3,000 people last year at the southwest border who had patterns of travel similar to a terrorist. We call them special interest aliens.
Trump was criticized for making the statement without “proof,” and Trump at one point acknowledged that while there was information suggesting the presence of Middle Easterners, he didn’t have proof. Nielsen is suggesting such proof does indeed exist.
Nielsen also said the caravans are funded by . . . somebody. That, as conservative suspected, they’re not simply arising out of nowhere.
With respect to the timing and the particular organization of the caravans, they’re not organic, if uou will, they’re definitely organized, they’re financed.
She added that new caravans coming up behind the lead one are “mostly single males.”
