So in the end, President Trump ignored all the pleadings of the business sector and the economists and listened to the health experts.

But he was right to weigh the options, and he will continue to. There is a point, as he said, where the cure is worse than the disease, and once the curve is “bent” and there is sufficient testing in place, some compromise between health measures and the economy will have to be made.

Fauci said of Trump:

You know, interestingly, we showed him the data, he looked at the data and he got it right away, it was a pretty clear picture. Dr. Debbie Birx and I went in together and leaned over the desk and said “Here is the data, take a look.” He looked at them, he understood them and he just shook his head and said ‘I guess we got to do it.’

Dr. Anthony Fauci Says Trump Not to Blame for Botched Coronavirus Test Rollout

Dr. Anthony Fauci is kind of the George Washington of infectious disease control. Everyone praises him and trusts in his probity, across party lines.

So when he says President Trump is not at fault for the failure to provide enough coronavirus tests in a timely manner, it means something, even if Democrats don’t want to hear it.

That’s not to say that there wasn’t more Trump could have done to lead on this issue early on. But on this key point, Fauci gives him a pass.

According to the Washington Examiner:

The nation’s top infectious disease doctor said that neither President Trump nor the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are to blame for the slow rollout of COVID-19 testing in the United States.

Appearing on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show on Tuesday, Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that there were “multiple things” that went wrong, including a “technical glitch.”

“It was a complicated series of multiple things that conflated that just, you know, went the wrong way,” Fauci said. “One of them was a technical glitch that slowed things down in the beginning. Nobody’s fault. There wasn’t any bad guys there. It just happened.”

Addressing the technical glitch, Hewitt asked the doctor if “every president [would] have run into the same problem?”

“Oh, absolutely,” Fauci replied. “This has nothing to do with anybody’s fault, certainly not the president’s fault.
