As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

Trump HHS Warns Hospital for Forcing Catholic Nurse to Help with Abortion

The Trump administration sent a notice Wednesday to the University of Vermont Medical Center after a federal investigation concluded the hospital forced a Catholic nurse to assist in an abortion despite her objections to the procedure.

The hospital has 30 days to show it won’t force healthcare workers to violate their beliefs. If it does not, the complaint will go to another agency, the Health Resources and Services Administration, which will kick off a review process. The Burlington, Vermont-based hospital may lose government funding if it fails to make changes.

“We do not want a society where on the issue of life and death people are forced to violate their deepest-held beliefs,” Roger Severino, director of the Office for Civil Rights, said in a phone call with reporters Wednesday.

Trump Abortion Rule Forces Planned Parenthood to Forgo $60M

Major injury inflicted to the largest abortion provider in the nation, one that is funded by taxpayers.

According to the Washington Examiner:

Planned Parenthood will be foregoingas much as $60 million annually from a federal family planning program that will carry new anti-abortion rules.

“Planned Parenthood is still open. We are continuing to fight this rule in court,” said Alexis McGill Johnson, acting president of Planned Parenthood, said in a call with reporters Monday. She said the organization would do everything it could to make sure that clinics could stay open.

The Trump administration is giving healthcare providers until midnight to comply with a new rule that says organizations that accept federal family planning grants cannot directly provide patients with an abortion referral. Critics of the rule call it a “gag rule” because they say the government is forcing them to keep information from patients.

“We do consider ourselves being forced out of the Title X program because we cannot comply with the gag rule,” McGill Johnson said, calling the rule “dangerous” and “unethical.”

Trump Moves to Cut Off Funding for Planned Parenthood

Many on the right questioned during the campaign whether Donald Trump would govern as an actual populist conservative.

The influence of Jared and Ivanka appears to have been minimal. Whatever he once was during years past as a businessman in New York City, he seems to be a genuine conservative at this point, and certainly a more conservative president than either of the Bushes.

According to the Washington Examiner:

The Trump administration posted a final rule Friday that would require family planning clinics to be housed in separate buildings from abortion clinics, a move that would cut off Planned Parenthood from some federal funding.

The rule applies to a $286 million-a-year grant, known as Title X, that pays for birth control, testing of sexually transmitted diseases, and cancer screenings for 4 million low-income people. It requires the “physical and financial” separation of family planning services and abortion.

Federal funds are not permitted to go toward abortions except in the cases of rape, incest, or if a woman’s pregnancy threatens her life. Abortion foes, however, have long fought for rules along the lines of the one advanced Friday because they say allocating federal funds toward clinics such as Planned Parenthood frees up additional funds to provide abortions. The organization receives between $50 million and $60 million from Title X. The rule is likely to be challenged in federal court.

Trump Expected to Cut Planned Parenthood Funding

President Trump is likely to resurrect regulations drawn up by the Reagan administration that would lead to a reduction in funding for Planned Parenthood even without a congressional cutoff.

The move, according to The Hill, could help generate enthusiasm among conservatives whom Republicans are desperate to turn out for the 20189 midterms.

The Hill reports:

The regulations would ban organizations that receive family planning dollars under the Title X Family Planning Program, which funds organizations providing services like birth control to low-income women and men, from promoting abortion or referring patients for abortions.

Former President Reagan first issued the regulations, which Democrats describe as a “domestic gag rule,” in 1988. They also require a physical and financial separation of Title X funding recipients from abortion providers . . .

Their hope is that the restrictions will dissuade Planned Parenthood clinics from participating in Title X. Some clinics could also become ineligible if their family planning services are offered in the same location as abortion services.

“It’s a way to wiggle away at Planned Parenthood federal funding, and a way to reinforce the idea that abortion is not family planning,” Marcum said . . .

That’s right. It’s not family planning if they’re promoting abortion. It’s family unplanning.

In fact, I think an organization opposing the group should be established and called “Unplanned Parenthood” to help people decide to keep the baby they didn’t mean to produce in the heat of passion.

The regulations were never implemented under Reagan because of legal challenges, but they were upheld by he Supreme Court in May 1991. The rule was only in effect for a single month in 1992 before the Clinton administration suspended it and years later replaced it with something else.

Which begs the question, why didn’t George W. Bush reinstate this? Just another case of Trump acting as easilly the most conservative president since Reagan – and maybe before, if there was anyone more conservative than Reagan – while conservative NeverTrumpers continue to bellyache about him.

Trump Picks Anti-Abortion Activist for Top HHS Post

I thought you said Trump wasn’t a conservative.

Okay, maybe not you.

From the Guardian:

Donald Trump has appointed the former president of a leading anti-abortion group to the top communications role at the Department of Health and Human Services.

Charmaine Yoest, who for several years was head of Americans United for Life, will be HHS assistant secretary for public affairs. AUL played an instrumental role in the recent wave of anti-abortion laws by feeding model legislation to state lawmakers.

Under Yoest, the group pushed model bills that outlawed abortion after 20 weeks, required abortion providers to gain admitting privileges at local hospitals, and mandated counseling and waiting periods for women seeking abortions. AUL is also opposed to the use of the morning-after pill and IUDs.

House Reverses Obama’s Planned Parenthood Rule

Why taxpayer funding goes to an organization that performs abortions, a practice that is so objectionable to so many people, is not something I understand.

From the Washington Examiner:

The House passed a resolution Thursday re-opening the door for states to block Planned Parenthood from receiving some federal funds.

The measure, which passed 230-188, would reverse a last-minute rule from the Obama administration that said conservative states can’t block the women’s health and abortion provider from receiving family planning dollars under the Title X program.

More than a dozen states have sought to block Title X funding from Planned Parenthood clinics. The funds can’t be used for abortions under federal law, but conservatives say health providers offering abortions shouldn’t receive any federal reimbursements because money is fungible.

GOP to Kill Obama Order Requiring Taxpayer Funding of Planned Parenthood

The government was forced by the courts to allow abortion. But that doesn’t mean the government should be forcing you to pay for it. From the Washington Examiner: House Republicans will vote next week to liberate states from an Obama rule requiring them to subsidize Planned Parenthood. In one of his last actions, Obama effectively… Continue Reading

White House Provides Unprecedented Support for March for Life

This is pretty reassuring to those concerned Trump wasn’t going to pursue a conservative agenda. From the Washington Examiner: When throngs of abortion protesters convene Friday for the annual March for Life, they will enjoy the warmest show of White House support in the event’s four-decade history. Vice President Mike Pence and top Trump adviser… Continue Reading

Video || Hillary Won’t Say if She’s Seen Planned Parenthood Vids

Hillary Clinton today avoided saying whether she has seen the videos exposing the horrific baby-organ selling practices of Planned Parenthood. Carly Fiorina during Wednesday night’s debate said she should take a look. Watch Clinton here dodging the question with words, words, words. Uh, does Carly look a little maniacal here? I’m just saying. No, it’s not… Continue Reading

White House Refuses to Say it Will Veto Planned Parenthood Defund

This was weird, I thought. White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, despite looking a little weary from the Africa trip, was clearly ready for this question. And yet he declined to confirm a veto, saying only that the White House would “oppose” legislation defunding Planned Parenthood. It may seem minor, but I can tell you… Continue Reading
