As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

Trump Expected to Cut Planned Parenthood Funding

President Trump is likely to resurrect regulations drawn up by the Reagan administration that would lead to a reduction in funding for Planned Parenthood even without a congressional cutoff.

The move, according to The Hill, could help generate enthusiasm among conservatives whom Republicans are desperate to turn out for the 20189 midterms.

The Hill reports:

The regulations would ban organizations that receive family planning dollars under the Title X Family Planning Program, which funds organizations providing services like birth control to low-income women and men, from promoting abortion or referring patients for abortions.

Former President Reagan first issued the regulations, which Democrats describe as a “domestic gag rule,” in 1988. They also require a physical and financial separation of Title X funding recipients from abortion providers . . .

Their hope is that the restrictions will dissuade Planned Parenthood clinics from participating in Title X. Some clinics could also become ineligible if their family planning services are offered in the same location as abortion services.

“It’s a way to wiggle away at Planned Parenthood federal funding, and a way to reinforce the idea that abortion is not family planning,” Marcum said . . .

That’s right. It’s not family planning if they’re promoting abortion. It’s family unplanning.

In fact, I think an organization opposing the group should be established and called “Unplanned Parenthood” to help people decide to keep the baby they didn’t mean to produce in the heat of passion.

The regulations were never implemented under Reagan because of legal challenges, but they were upheld by he Supreme Court in May 1991. The rule was only in effect for a single month in 1992 before the Clinton administration suspended it and years later replaced it with something else.

Which begs the question, why didn’t George W. Bush reinstate this? Just another case of Trump acting as easilly the most conservative president since Reagan – and maybe before, if there was anyone more conservative than Reagan – while conservative NeverTrumpers continue to bellyache about him.

Trump Picks Anti-Abortion Activist for Top HHS Post

I thought you said Trump wasn’t a conservative.

Okay, maybe not you.

From the Guardian:

Donald Trump has appointed the former president of a leading anti-abortion group to the top communications role at the Department of Health and Human Services.

Charmaine Yoest, who for several years was head of Americans United for Life, will be HHS assistant secretary for public affairs. AUL played an instrumental role in the recent wave of anti-abortion laws by feeding model legislation to state lawmakers.

Under Yoest, the group pushed model bills that outlawed abortion after 20 weeks, required abortion providers to gain admitting privileges at local hospitals, and mandated counseling and waiting periods for women seeking abortions. AUL is also opposed to the use of the morning-after pill and IUDs.

House Reverses Obama’s Planned Parenthood Rule

Why taxpayer funding goes to an organization that performs abortions, a practice that is so objectionable to so many people, is not something I understand.

From the Washington Examiner:

The House passed a resolution Thursday re-opening the door for states to block Planned Parenthood from receiving some federal funds.

The measure, which passed 230-188, would reverse a last-minute rule from the Obama administration that said conservative states can’t block the women’s health and abortion provider from receiving family planning dollars under the Title X program.

More than a dozen states have sought to block Title X funding from Planned Parenthood clinics. The funds can’t be used for abortions under federal law, but conservatives say health providers offering abortions shouldn’t receive any federal reimbursements because money is fungible.

GOP to Kill Obama Order Requiring Taxpayer Funding of Planned Parenthood

The government was forced by the courts to allow abortion. But that doesn’t mean the government should be forcing you to pay for it.

From the Washington Examiner:

House Republicans will vote next week to liberate states from an Obama rule requiring them to subsidize Planned Parenthood.

In one of his last actions, Obama effectively forced states to fund Planned Parenthood. Many states have policies barring state funds for the abortion giant, and Obama’s 11th-hour executive order prohibited such policies.

Next week, the House plans to use the Congressional Review Act to repeal that Obama regulation — a first salvo in their fight to roll back Obama’s legacy on abortion.

According to congressional aides, the vote is scheduled for late next week and will specifically axe Obama’s Title X rule. During his final weeks in office, Obama finalized the regulation, explicitly barring states from pulling federal grant money from clinics that provide abortion.

White House Provides Unprecedented Support for March for Life

This is pretty reassuring to those concerned Trump wasn’t going to pursue a conservative agenda.

From the Washington Examiner:

When throngs of abortion protesters convene Friday for the annual March for Life, they will enjoy the warmest show of White House support in the event’s four-decade history.

Vice President Mike Pence and top Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway will headline the pre-march rally on the National Mall, becoming the highest-ranking members of a presidential administration ever to speak at the annual protest. And President Trump plans to call into the rally to voice his support, following a pattern set by two of his GOP predecessors.

Video || Hillary Won’t Say if She’s Seen Planned Parenthood Vids

Hillary Clinton today avoided saying whether she has seen the videos exposing the horrific baby-organ selling practices of Planned Parenthood.

Carly Fiorina during Wednesday night’s debate said she should take a look.

Watch Clinton here dodging the question with words, words, words.

Uh, does Carly look a little maniacal here? I’m just saying.

No, it’s not sexist. Trump looks plenty maniacal too. Maybe they’ll make up and form a magical, maniacal ticket together.

White House Refuses to Say it Will Veto Planned Parenthood Defund

This was weird, I thought.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, despite looking a little weary from the Africa trip, was clearly ready for this question. And yet he declined to confirm a veto, saying only that the White House would “oppose” legislation defunding Planned Parenthood.

It may seem minor, but I can tell you from years of watching the White House, that’s a distinction with a difference.

QUESTION: Would President Obama veto any bill that would defund Planned Parenthood — defund it either in whole or defund it in part? Is that sort of a principle here?

EARNEST: Well, I know that there has been an effort on the part of some Republicans to try to play some politics with some selectively edited videos. This is a tactic that we have seen used before. The President obviously does not support that ongoing effort. And I don’t have a blanket principle to share with you, but I can tell you that, on balance, the President would not be supportive of any sort of congressional act done.

QUESTION: But he wouldn’t go so far as to say he would veto any effort that would include that?

EARNEST:  Well, again, it’s apparent that Republicans are just getting started in that effort, and that is an effort that we oppose.

White House Defends Planned Parenthood

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest Wednesday defended Planned Parenthood in the wake of videos showing a top Planned Parenthood official callously discussing the harvesting and sale of fetal organs. Earnest said the videos were deceitful: I haven’t spoken to the President about the actual videos. I have read the reports, and I’m confident that… Continue Reading

Obama Aborts the Opposition

If you want clear evidence that all President Obama’s rhetoric about reaching out to Republicans and uniting people has all been a plate of pork and beef baloney, then have a look at this, Obama’s celebratory statement Wednesday on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade: Today, as we reflect on the 41st anniversary of the… Continue Reading
