In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

White House cancels briefing over a few inches of snow

Washington got a total of eight inches of snow and closed down the government.

The White House canceled the daily briefing.

Russian President Putin must be having a good laugh at our expense. In Moscow, if they closed the government for this amount of snow, there would be no government.

There was a time when the U.S. federal government almost never closed for snow. But that was before the elite became woken wimps.

According to Politico:

The White House on Monday announced it will not hold its daily press briefing due to the closure of federal offices prompted by snowy weather across the Washington, D.C., area.

The National Weather Service on Monday morning issued a winter storm warning for the District of Columbia and adjacent counties in Maryland and Virginia. The warning, which will remain in effect until 4 p.m., cautioned that snow accumulations across the District, the Washington metropolitan area and parts of Northern Virginia could total 5 to 10 inches.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management on Sunday night announced that federal offices in the nation’s capital would be closed on Monday because of the snowstorm. As a result, “there will be no press briefing today,” the White House said in a statement circulated by a pool reporter on Monday morning.

Although the White House Covid-19 Response Team and federal public officials have conducted briefings in recent days, White House press secretary Jen Psaki has not faced the press since Dec. 23, when she took questions from reporters ahead of the holidays.

  1. Lucky Psaki, another day off.

Also, I read that due to the Omicron “surge” they’re back to limiting the number of WH press corps in the briefing room. It finally went back to full capacity, 49 seats, back in June. Well, now they’re going to limit it again to just 14!

  2. Oh dear, 5 to 10 inches of snow? Hahahahaha! What a bunch of wussies. People in the northern states and in Canada aren’t scared by a little snow!

  3. I say we enact a new Exec Order. If the city of Washington has not declared a state of emergency, any federal employee who does not show up to work gets docked a day’s pay.
The daily workers who they people purport to represent cannot stay home and get paid….they go to work. Same rules should apply to those that they elected.

    Infuriates me.

  4. This is consistent with the left’s awful habit of thinking that people just don’t need to work. Then the economy grinds to a halt and crumbles and they blame “the man”.

I agree with Harv, if they close because of anything less than a declared emergency, they should not get payed for that day. That is absolutely fair.

  5. Let me get this straight, The WH cancelled an indoor briefing because there was snow on the ground! Aren’t members of the press already at The WH? This entire illegitimate administration is a craptastic show of imbecilic proportions. Let’s go Brandon!
