In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Kamala Harris heads into damage control mode

Vice President Harris already has people thinking she’s leading the effort on the border and failing badly. The White House is trying to emphasize that she is only dealing with “root causes.” But people aren’t getting the message, because it’s a little too cute. If that’s true, why wouldn’t the vice president want to take on the whole thing, including the immediate situation at the border?

Now she is tolerating people calling Jews inflictors of “ethnic genocide.” Did she not understand how Jews would react to such a word as “genocide” being applied to them?

She’s trying to fix it. According to Fox News:

Vice President Kamala Harris’ office is scrambling to reassure pro-Israel Democrats after she failed to push back against a student who accused Israel of “ethnic genocide.”

The controversy stems from an incident Wednesday in which a student attending an event to promote voting told Harris Israel was committing “ethnic genocide” in Palestine and argued the U.S. was ignoring protests despite promoting the power of democracy.

“Your voice, your perspective, your experience, your truth cannot be suppressed, and it must be heard,” Harris told the student.

The remarks prompted immediate backlash from the Israeli press, which ran headlines such as, “Kamala Harris doesn’t reject US student’s ‘ethnic genocide’ claim against Israel.”

Members of Harris’ staff have been working behind the scenes with pro-Israel groups and lawmakers on damage control, with one senior staff member contacting the Democratic Majority for Israel to reaffirm the vice president’s commitment to the country.

“We were pleased Vice President Harris’s senior staff reached out to us today to confirm what we already knew: Her ‘commitment to Israel’s security is unwavering,’” said Mark Mellman, the group’s president.

A senior adviser also reached out to Rep. Ted Deutch, a Florida Democrat who co-chairs the Bipartisan Anti‐Semitism Taskforce, according to Politico.

Meantime, she’s tapped a couple of people to do crisis PR.

According to the Daily Caller:

One of Harris’ new advisers, Adam Frankel, is notably married to Stephanie Psaki, a senior adviser at the Department of Health and Human Services and sister of White House press secretary Jen Psaki. He was also a speechwriter for former President Barack Obama.

The other adviser, Lorraine Voles, is a consultant whose services include “strategic and crisis communications.” She also served in multiple White House roles under former President Bill Clinton.

Unfortunately for Kamala Harris, this is not a perception problem. This is a Kamala Harris problem.

  1. VP Harris is just being her genuine self. So naturally she has to change. Our 21st century version of fakery is exhausting.

This is one area where children are like wise old people — they can ALWAYS tell when a teacher is fake. Students can sniff that out like a dog.

  2. Harris lacks the political intelligence to properly converse with students and communicate when they are off track or insensitive with their comments. How the heck can anyone expect that she could adequately negotiate or discuss serious matters with other world leaders. Heck, she cannot even give us an idea of how she intends to stem the flow of border migrants.

  3. Kamala not any different in her hate of Israel than Hillary Clinton . . . a lover of the PLO and HAMAS . . .

“[In 1999, Hillary] Clinton again raised eyebrows during a trip to the Middle East. She attended a speech at which Suha Arafat, the wife of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, accused Israel of using poisonous gas against Palestinians. Despite the controversial remarks, Clinton kissed Suha on the cheek, as is customary in the region.”

And she said nuthin’ to counter Suha’s claim.

HILLARY CLINTON WASN’T ALWAYS THIS ONE-SIDED ON ISRAEL – from The Intercept, Zaid Jilani, May 17 2016, 12:06 p.m.

The kiss turned into a political headache for Clinton, who was hit with an ad featuring that image by the Republican Jewish Coalition — the very first political ad the then-nascent group had ever aired — as she prepped a run for U.S. Senate in New York.”

  4. The “root causes” thing is just a faculty lounge “solution” that kicks the can down the road . . . they have no interest in actually solving the problem.

  5. Teresa is correct. As a teacher I cannot fathom letting that statement pass. Kammie is embarrassingly inept at intelligent debate or even common decency, let alone successful diplomacy.
