In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Inspector General says Lafayette Square was not cleared for Trump photo op

A couple of things to note about this.

It’s a report by a Biden administration inspector general.

It was widely assumed, without evidence, by that Lafayette Square was cleared so Trump could hold a Bible in front of St. John’s Church. That was wrong.

And 49 U.S. Park Police were injured, and nobody seems to care. In fact, the protests were celebrated with the renaming of the street leading to Lafayette Park to Black Lives Matter Plaza. As long as it is the left doing violent protest — and endangering the White House — it’s fine with everyone.

According to Fox News:

“An Inspector General’s report released Wednesday found that when law enforcement cleared Lafayette Park in front of the White House last June, security was the top priority – not a photo opportunity for Donald Trump.

“One week after the death of George Floyd and following days of unrest between Black Lives Matter (BLM) protesters and law enforcement, Trump made headlines for walking through a recently cleared area in front of the White House to pose for a picture in front of St. John’s Church while holding a Bible.

“Groups like BLM and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) later sued Trump and his Attorney General Bill Barr for forcefully removing protestors from the square.

“But the investigation released by Interior Department Inspector General Mark Lee Greenblatt, says U.S. Park Police and the U.S. Secret Service concluded it was necessary to remove protestors from the park on June 1 in order to install anti-scale fencing.

“The decision was reached after at least 49 U.S. Park Police (USPP) were injured while policing the protests that took place from May 30 – 31.

“Federal police officials did not learn of the president’s ‘potential’ plan to walk through the park until hours after the operational strategy to erect the fence had been laid out.”

  1. Is there an Inspector General for Charlottesville? Too bad Trump’s speech didn’t occur on Federal property. Darn. We could put that lie to rest, too.

  2. The AP reports that President Trump responded to this news as follows:

“Thank you to the Department of the Interior Inspector General for Completely and Totally exonerating me in the clearing of Lafayette Park!,” Trump said in a statement.

“As we have said all along, and it was backed up in today’s highly detailed and professionally written report, our fine Park Police made the decision to clear the park to allow a contractor to safely install antiscale fencing to protect from Antifa rioters, radical BLM protestors, and other violent demonstrators who are causing chaos and death to our cities. In this instance, they tried burning down the church the day before the clearing,” Trump said. “Fortunately, we were there to stop the fire from spreading beyond the basement—and it was our great honor and privilege to do so. Again, thank you to the Inspector General!”

My comment: God bless President Trump!
