In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Happy Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day, everyone.

It is perhaps a bit odd that we wish each other a happy Memorial Day, when it is a day that we remember those who have given their lives, most of them barely started, for our country.

It is a day to be sad, if we truly take some time today to contemplate their deaths. But it is also a day of happiness, for in appreciating their heroism, we acknowledge the wonder of the country that they died for. During a time when the value and goodness of America is being challenged with an intensity perhaps greater than at any time since the Civil War, let us celebrate our nation and give meaning to the sacrifice of those who paid the ultimate price.

And perhaps say a prayer too, for they are with God.

  1. Thank you Rebekah & Keith.

And thank you to the men and women who sacrificed their ultimate “gift” – with their own lives – to keep us free.

  2. Very well stated Rebekah & Keith. I think the statement – Land of the Free Because of the Brave – says it all.

  3. Thank you R&K, our sane friends who shed light on the topics of the day, with salient words and a touch of humor. So much to be thankful for, even during trying times.
