In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Eric Swallwell sues Trump for “emotional distress” over Capitol riot

In this new age of sensitivity over every little slight and negative comment, some of our leaders feel the8y have license to  become wimps. And the world must be laughing, or in the case of China and Russia, watching.

News of former presidential candidate Swalwell’s suit against Trump for emotional distress comes a day after the House fled Washington and stayed out of session Thursday over fears that there might be some protests, which never materialized.

And of course there was the cry-in on the House floor among House lawmakers traumatized by the Jan. 6 events.

According to the Washington Times:

Rep. Eric Swalwell sued former President Donald Trump on Friday for emotional distress following the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, seeking financial damages.

The California Democrat claimed in a 65-page complaint that the 45th president was responsible for inciting the assault and was negligent in his official duties as president to prevent and stop the deadly protest.

Mr. Trump’s attorney Rudolph W. Giuliani and Rep. Mo Brooks, Alabama Republican, are also listed as defendants. The lawsuit noted they spoke alongside Mr. Trump on Jan. 6 before the Trump supporters broke into the Capitol during a joint-session of Congress to halt the certification of the 2020 election results.

“In claiming for weeks that President Biden’s victory was in fact the largest act of fraud in American history; in seeing that some of Trump’s supporters were willing to engage in violence in response to such claims; and in using highly inflammatory language in repeating the false claims of fraud at the rally before sending the crowd to the Capitol, the Defendants at a minimum acted negligently,” read the complaint.

  1. A truly disgusting “snow flake”, this Swallwell creature. If he feels “emotionally distressed”, he should see, not a lawyer to file a lawsuit, but a psychiatrist which he needs anyway to see for obvious, various reasons.

  2. Isn’t this the guy who was “seeing” a China spy? May we sue him for emotional distress?

I lay awake at night wondering what secrets he gave to her!

  3. Good grief. What an idiot.
The POTUS can’t be sued for actions he takes while in office. If it was allowed, we’d file a claim against Obama for ruining our health insurance, trying to upend our constitution, and for generally being a lumphead.

  4. I get “emotional distress” when I see senile Biden, moron Schummer, stroke Pelosi, or this scumbag Swallwell…
    Who can I sue?!

  5. Hmmmm, will the not so Supreme Court rule his suit is without merit, or will it just be moot at this time? Enquiring minds want to know!

  6. Trump’s defense needs to start with the premise that none of the events in question likely would have happened, if the 2020 election had been completely on the up-and-up.

So, wouldn’t it be an absolute shame, don’t you know, if discovery for the defense–or perhaps even as part of a countersuit–developed a case of mission creep? >:-D
