In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Kamala Harris pressuring Democratic senators to fall in line behind partisan Covid bill

Well, looks like the call for unity was mostly for laughs.

Vice President Harris is doing interviews with local new outlets designed to pressure Democratic moderates Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona to back the Biden $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief proposal.

That’s because Democrats need those two lawmakers to ram it through the Senate with just 50 votes, without any Republican support.

Theis even as Republicans are headed to the White House Monday to speak with President Biden about a bipartisan bill.

But Biden has little room to maneuver. If he tries to do anything like the roughly $600 billion package Republicans want, he’ll lose Democrats. And AOC and the Left will be mad!

According to Fox News:

Vice President Kamala Harris promoted the Biden administration’s “critical” coronavirus “American Rescue Plan” this week in a pair of interviews with local TV stations in West Virginia and Arizona.

But U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., said he was surprised by the Harris interview in his state, claiming no one from the administration had called him to discuss the appearance, WSAZ-TV of Huntington, W.Va., reported.

The communication gap was a departure from the national “unity” theme that Harris and President Biden have promoted, he suggested.

“We’re going to try to find a bipartisan pathway forward, but we need to work together,” Manchin told the station. “That’s not a way of working together.”

Manchin, 73, who has represented West Virginia in the Senate since 2010 and previously served as its governor, is known for an independent streak that has often placed him at odds with national Democratic Party leaders.
