President Biden has undone Donald Trump’s ban on transgenders serving in the military.
“Allowing all qualified Americans to serve their country in uniform is better for the military and better for the country because an inclusive force is a more effective force,” the White House said in a statement. “Simply put, it’s the right thing to do and is in our national interest.”
The decision comes on the heels of a Biden order that allows transgenders access to restrooms and schools and permits them to participate in girls’ sports.
The Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision in January 2019 had ruled that the ban was constitutional.
