In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Trump: Pre-pandemic, George Washington would have had a hard time beating me

This will, of course, be scorned as an outrage by the very people preparing to tear down statues of George Washington.

Trump told conservative talk show host Hugh Hewitt:

I don’t know if you’ve seen, the polls have been going up like a rocket ship. George Washington would have had a hard time beating me before the plague came in, before the China plague. And then, you know, like every other nation, like other countries, when you get hit, it affects you, and we went down a little bit.

Trump’s problem, and his strength, is that he speaks like a regular person. You could hear him saying “Geroge Washington would have had a hard time beating me” in a bar to the laughs of knowing patrons who understand he is joking.

But the elite in the media lack common sense. Most of them, having spent too much time in Washington, common anything.

I guess you could say that, owning slaves and bearing wooden teeth, Washington might not make the perfect candidate in 2020. I mean, CNN and the Washington Post certainly would not approve of his candidacy, given Washington’s support for traditional values and the original intent of the Constitution.

  1. I think (and hope) people are revisiting some of their angst over the past 3 months and realizing that President Trump is good for the country – warts and all. I guess some would say you can’t have a sense of humor about anything. Keith is right – this is a conversation people would easily have amongst friends or in a bar. In fact, most of us have probably done the same. Was enjoying pool life a couple of weeks ago at our over 55 development. We were discussing Covid19 and how people react, social distancing etc. One of the people made a cute comment – if I think someone is too close to me – rather than say anything I start coughing – moves people very quickly. He probably does that rather than be the mask or social distancing police. We all laughed – we knew what he meant but I KNOW some people would have thought him a jerk or insensitive. Life goes on.

  2. My wife and I have concluded that the left has lost their sense of humor. Remember when comedians were funny and made fun of everyone? That is gone, for now. You know those delicious black and white cookies, mostly sold in NY? The other day someone asked me, without any ill intent, which half I enjoyed more. I started to answer and just started laughing out loud. Even cookies are off limits now.

  3. There was a report on Drudge that the WH contacted the governor of South Dakota and requested that Trump be included on Mount Rushmore. Was that fake news? Was it Trump’s ego? as he pulling the Left’s chain? I thought Rushmore was a national monument and the governor would have no say about it. Awhile ago the idea of putting Obama up there. It takes 50 years after a president leaves office to really know how well he did. Truman left office with low ratings. Now he is rated a near great president. One term president do not rate very high.
Near Rushmore is Sturgis, South Dakota. They are holding their famous motorcycle rally. 250,000 are expected to attend. No one is wearing a mask. I don’t see how they can keep their distrane. I wonder if they are going to spread the virus.

    1. To anyone worried about the Sturgis motorcycle rally: Exhaust fumes from a Harley have been proven to kill the Chinese Cootie virus. All will be safe.

Our President, what a guy! The Mt Rushmore thing – Obama wondered if his profile could be added to the Presidents while visiting the site. Some news groupies thought that was a grand idea.
