In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Trump backs off call for election delay

President Trump today backed of his suggestion this morning that he might seek to delay the election, indicating his purpose was to point out the potential problems posed by mail-in ballots.

He spoke today at the White House, answering a reporter’s question:

I don’t want a delay. I want to have the election. But I also don’t want to have to wait for three months and then find out that the ballots are all missing, and the election doesn’t mean anything. That’s what’ going to happen, Steve. That’s common sense . . . Do I want to see a date change? No. But I don’t want to see a crooked election.

I’ll tell you what he also did. He changed the whole news day from what it would have been, which is that the economy declined at an annualized rate of 33.9 percent the second quarter of the year. Trump is a genius at stealing the news cycle, and he did it again.

He didn’t have the authority anyway. Takes an act of Congress.

Pot stirred. Media goose cooked.

  1. Remember 4 years ago, all those “I stand with Hillary” bumper stickers, signs on lawns, all that jazz? Perhaps we are not quite into the heat of the election yet, but has ANYONE seen a Biden 2020 sign or sticker? I see some TRUMP 2020 signs and flags, particularly as I travel in the northern part of NY… But I live in suburban NY, home to the Clintons, etc…. not one Biden insignia. Maybe the enthusiasm factor is not there. Or the folks just don’t want to slap a Biden sticker on their car, then have to cover it with a Cuomo 2020 version…

    1. Haha! Very true about the lack of ‘Biden 2020’ signs out there… and I live in North Delaware about 30 min from Ole Senile Joe’s basement! -LOL

(…every time I get gas I stick a little Trump 2020 sticker on the gas pump ;-) and looks like every time it gets ripped off)

  2. President Trump is a clever man. He is right that an election whose result cannot be ascertained would be a disaster – and I think that situation is the Dems’ goal.

As for the economy and the stock market, we are in rough times and a recovery like a rocket going up is unlikely. It’s the image over time that counts and even with the Chinese virus in the picture, people seem committed to doing the work to revive our economy back to being strong.

  3. Your comments & observations here are spot-on, as usual. Trump deflected the news masterfully. The leftist media jumped right on it, as he planned. Trump plays them like they are a cat, and he has the laser pointer.
