Trump bars counting of illegal immigrants as part of the census

President Trump Tuesday issued a memo that prevents illegal immigrants from being counted as part of the census.

From the memo:

President Trump is issuing a memorandum clarifying that illegal aliens are not to be included for the purpose of apportionment of Representatives following the 2020 census.

Giving congressional representation and political influence to illegal aliens – people who have blatantly disregarded our laws – would be a perversion of our democratic principles.

Allowing illegal aliens to be counted for the purpose of apportionment could also create perverse incentives – such as potentially rewarding states that encourage violations of Federal immigration law – that would undermine our system of government.

President Trump will never allow our democracy to be eroded by giving congressional representation to illegal aliens when the Constitution does not require it.

  1. If it’s true that California is @40% illegal alien, then they lose 1/2 of their congressional seats. They won’t let that happen.

    1. According to FAIR, it would be more like six seats. But the winners there, would be states like Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, and South Carolina.

And Texas and Florida wouldn’t go unscathed, either. But on balance, the winners in that scenario, would mostly be GOP-leaning states in the heartland.

So, yes, the Democrats would pitch a fit, and well they might. Also, if the GOP wins down-ballot this fall, the redistricting would be a one-two gut punch.

  2. Good for you, President Trump. I oppose your giving amnesty to the DACAs, but this is a good move. Please don’t go DACA-soft-hearted on us with this issue.
