In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

    1. It’s all BE and accomplishes nothing in terms of improving anyone’s life. Rational people must remember this when voting in November.

  1. I know I’m in a minority, but those statues mean nothing to me. I don’t see the naming of bridges and/or buildings after certain people either as important. If the citizens want to change the name of their city or state – go for it.
None of these radical “erasures” will make the past disappear. Our country was never a perfect state and it will never be one in the future. Americans have always tried to right the wrongs.
We are one of the few countries on Earth to acknowledge that change is necessary and try to do the best for everyone.

    1. The past will disappear, if it is forgotten. And it can be forgotten all too easily. ESPECIALLY when formerly free people are ordered to forget, at the business end of a government gun.

Personally, I’d rather not validate Santayana, by seeing Kipling’s gods of the copybook headings, with terror and slaughter return.

      But maybe that’s just me.

  2. I was asking the spouse if there was an Island for those that want to be “autonomous” and prefer socialism and he suggested GITMO. That sounds perfect since it’s in Cuba.

  3. What we are currently witnessing in the destruction of commemorative statues and other historical artifacts and institutions is the madness of crowds. How easily are individual humans formed into a mindless “crowd” and led into mindless, destructive behavior. We see it now every day, inflamed by the media, Left vs Right, Dems vs Rep, Black vs White, politicians vs politicians etc.
    The Madness of Crowds.
As seed for thought and contemplation for our strange times, I offer the following:

      1. All decent US Citizens need to brush up on the history of Mao, the “cultural revolution” & the psychotic youth cadres of the ‘Red Guards’…

  4. The ignorant, Democrat/left-socialist, America hating “Red Guards” are winning if they are allowed to tear down statues and erase US History.
