Trump Orders Meat Plants to Stay Open During Coronavirus

Sorry, Greta. We’ve got to keep those farting cows fat and happy.

According to the Washington Examiner:

President Trump plans to order meat processing plants to stay open during the coronavirus pandemic.

Trump said he would sign an executive order under the Defense Production Act declaring the plants part of critical infrastructure in the United States.

“We’re going to sign an executive order today, I believe, and that’ll solve any liability problems,” Trump said Tuesday during an Oval Office meeting with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican.

Processing plants in more than a dozen states have shut down in recent weeks because of coronavirus outbreaks in rural meatpacking communities, putting the country’s food supply chain at risk.

  1. Good! This is a smart move. And if that means these processing operations have to hire American citizens or permanent residents to do the work in a safe and decent manner, instead of importing cheap, biddable labor legal or otherwise, more to the good.

Smithfield, which also covers most of our well known US brands such as Eckrich, Morrel, Armour, Kretschmar, Cooks, and many others… is Chinese-owned. The company was bought in 2013 by a Chinese company named “WH Group” of China.

    1. Yes indeed. I do not hold with the “new” lower temperatures for cooking pork or poultry. Those meats, and all wild meat, needs to be fully cooked.
