In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Trump Says He Does Not Believe National Lockdown Will Be Necessary

According to the Washington Examiner:

President Trump said a national lockdown would not be necessary to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Trump updated reporters and officials on Friday on the federal government’s fight to contain the pandemic. The president said that after California and New York implemented strict emergency regulations to slow the spread of the disease, he did not foresee a need for a nation-wide lockdown.

“I don’t think so,” Trump said when asked if he thought a national lockdown would be needed. “Essentially, you’ve done that in California, you’ve done that in New York. Those are two really hot beds. Those are probably the two hottest of them all in terms of hotspots.

  1. It’s time to start thinking in the other direction…do everything we can for two to three weeks max to slow to spread, but then the healthy need to get back to work. At that point, simultaneously isolate and treat the most vulnerable and preserve the economic and emotional well-being of the rest. We can’t all hide inside for months for something that will likely affect a very tiny percentage of people.

By the way, I noticed at the presser today the the depths of the MSM’s hatred of the president…they seem to want him to fail in his efforts to manage this crisis…they’re almost rooting for it. Truly pathetic.

  2. Here in Panama we have a 9 PM to 5 AM curfew. Foreigners are not allowed to enter. Returning citizens and residences required to do a 14 day home stay. Tuesday I was refused entry into a supermarket since I am an old geezer. I saw them turn away another old guy. COPA, the national flag carrier of Panama, will suspend flights for 30 days. Their stock has tanked from $108 to $32. Most cases are in the Panama City area. I am 300 miles away near the border with Costa Rica. On the bright side Panama has daily income from the Canal.

  3. Here is my question to all those who bash, denigrate, and find fault: What are YOU doing to make things better? and what are YOU doing to help ease others? If nothing .. you are a part of the problem and not the solution.

      1. I wasn’t scolding anyone but thank you for your advice and your scolding. I wish you and yours health and safety. Smiles, thank you for showing me only certain things may be said and certain people may post here. I won’t return.

  4. I’ve been playing with the math relative with the corona virus situation in the US. If my math is correct, here’s where we are as of today in the US:

–According to the CDC, there are now a total of 15,219 people infected with the virus.
–There have been 201 deaths from the virus.
–The infection rate is about 19 per million population
–The fatality rate is .0132% of those who contract the virus. Sad for all impacted, obviously, but nothing like it’s been painted by the media as an “End of Days/doomsday” scenario.

Another point: the term pandemic has been used by the media to create panic, fear, empty grocery shelves and forecast Armageddon. That’s nonsense. A pandemic simply means that a disease/virus which may impact many people in a country has been found to also be in other countries at the same time–any influenza does that in a typical year–in fact every year.

Couple of sites which I found interesting and information:

    1. Excellent Marcus! I ALWAYS perk up when I see “Marcus Says”

There is no measure of success noted yet – worrisome – Dr Fauci and company are charged with this issue — no mention of the increased domestic violence, suicide, stress induced heart attacks, et al. What is the cost of keeping the Covid 19 down to 5, 10 or 20K deaths?

The silver bullet of Chloroquine family of drugs is soooo obvious a solution. Following the ‘Do no harm’ mantra — this is a drug that your doctor would have sent home with you as you would prepare for a non-essential visit to a county with a possible malaria problem — “Take this for 2 weeks before and during and blah blah – No ma’am been around since the end of WW2 – been given out a zillion times – enjoy your trip – make sure you post on FaceBook blah blah blah…”

As an economist — a behavioral economist — I have no faith in government workers that 1 – get attention and extra benefit to an ongoing issue 2 – get paid full wages throughout 3. – Can rule and govern over people. This is not an extra shot at government workers — they are the ones here – same goes for a pain-in-the-ass administrator at a company – motives/rewards matter – The government is not properly motivated.

      James Madison…>>>
“If Men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and the next place, oblige it to control itself.”

In my one 3-year term on a city council I saw how much the ‘deep state’ thinking can make a person think that the government is smart and the people are idiots — So when you have a government Dr – under 6 presidents and a myriad of other folks with long service — you see that.

When there is science in the past 70+ years on something… it is time to make this happen. Watch Apollo 13 – the scenes where the astronauts were jumping circuits etc to make things happen — the Duct Tape solution might seem haphazard but many a life has been saved that way…. AND.. be real… this drug is far from duct tape — studied and studied and used for decades. See below link.

Also — Marcus is right — if we were not told of the ‘pandemic’ this would seem like a normal event.
