They know Bernie Sander will almost certainly lose to President Trump. So with Joe Biden having convincingly won South Carolina, the Democratic elite have anointed him as the one to stop Bernie.
Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg have both withdrawn from the race and endorsed Biden. Harry Reid, former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, late Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy’s wife, Vicki Kennedy, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and 2016 vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine have all just endorsed Joe.
Barack Obama has all but endorsed him too. The former president called Biden to congratulate him after South Carolina, and he put word out through the New York Times, which quoted a source knowledgeable about Obama’s thinking that Obama believes Sanders would have difficulty uniting the party.
Well, so would Joe Biden.
First of all, he sometimes has trouble stringing sentences together. And secondly, the left will be in open rebellion if he wins, whether fairly or not.
Sanders could easily enter the convention with the most delegates and then be denied that nomination by the elite “superdelegates” get to vote if he lacks a majority. That will create utter pandemonium. And for a rare moment, I will think the left is acting rationally and has a damned good point.
And Biden is no more likely to beat Trump than Sanders. Maybe less so.
