Four Prosecutors in Roger Stone Case Resign After DOJ Changes Sentencing Request

Hear comes your next scandal.

From the Washington Examiner:

All four prosecutors in the Roger Stone case withdrew from their roles after the Justice Department reversed course in seeking a lengthy prison sentence for the Republican operative.

The officials, three of whom were members of special counsel Robert Mueller’s team investigating a possible criminal conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia, left after President Trump condemned the original sentencing recommendation of up to nine years in prison.

Addressing reporters Tuesday evening outside the White House, Trump denied that he played a role in the decision by the Justice Department to lower its sentencing recommendation for Stone. “I would be able to do it if I wanted, I have the absolute right to do it. I stay out of things to a degree that people wouldn’t believe. But I didn’t speak to them,” Trump said. “I thought the recommendation was ridiculous. I thought the whole prosecution was ridiculous.”

  1. I’m not sure what is appropriate, but given the length of sentences or nonsentences to others who commit similar “crimes”, 9 years did seem over the top. Punish him for what he did, but let’s not by hypocritical when members of the FBI (McCabe and likely Comey) were equal opportunity wrongdoers. I don’t think either of them should go to prison for 9 years either. In addition, the raid that was done on Mr. Stone was way over the top – talk about overkill. In any event, everything is a scandal. The Attorney General is suing some states/cities for their sanctuary status – that will be a scandal. The Flynn attorneys are fighting hard to get Mr. Flynn’s case done away with. There are plenty of wrongdoers in all of this. The system is a mess.

  2. GenFlynn and Stone lied to the FBI about something. They wanted them to go to prison for that.
So how much prison time does a FBI Director get for lying to the POTUS?

  3. And right on cue, the usual suspects are demanding an investigation. No doubt it will be swiftly followed by a do-over impeachment proceeding, which itself was already a do-over of the Mueller nothingburger.

And with the honest-to-Marx, capital-C Communist Bernie Sanders looking more and more like he’s going to be the Democrats’ nominee, this is already starting to look like shades of McGovern ’72. Trump may end up giving the Democrats an ass-whooping worthy of a Singapore prison guard.

Except now, if that carries down to Congress and the states, imagine how 2022 will look after reappointment. All those red states, with new districts to draw, and ruby-red legislatures doing the drawing…

I’m already enjoying this waaaay too much. Bwahahahaha!

  4. Stone had his home raided by the FBI in the middle of the night…with CNN in tow.

Stone, Flynn, Carter Page, Manafort (in solitary confinement, no less!) were all targeted because they supported Trump. That’s your scandal.
