In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

John Bolton Volunteers to Testify at Senate Trial

Not sure why he’s doing this now. I gather his relationship with President Trump is irrevocably broken, and he hopes to do what he can to ensure a President Pence – who after all is an Iran hawk, like Bolton.

Pence was among the Trump aides who backed killing Qassem Soleimani.

But who knows?

From a statement by Bolton:

The House has concluded its Constitutional responsibility by adopting Articles of Impeachment related to the Ukraine matter. It now falls to the Senate to fulfill its Constitutional obligation to try impeachments, and it does not appear possible that a final judicial resolution of the still-unanswered Constitutional questions can be obtained before the Senate acts.

Accordingly, since my testimony is once again at issue, I have had to resolve the serious competing issues as best I could, based on careful consideration and study. I have concluded that, if the Senate issues a subpoena for my testimony, I am prepared to testify.

  1. He won’t testify because the Senate will not subpoena him. They’ve already worked it out. McConnell does not even attempt to hide his corruption anymore. And, the Base will be perfectly ok with the silence of Bolton along with the silence of many other potential witnesses who would have had unpleasant truths to tell.

    1. Pelosi could have waited for the courts to compel testimony from administration officials who challenged their House subpoenas, but she didn’t want to…instead she was in too big of a hurry to let the legal process play out. And now she’s holding onto the Articles until she gets her way, when it’s not even up to her. She doesn’t even attempt to hide her corruption anymore.

  2. How about Bolton volunteers to put on a uniform, go to the ME and do what needs to be done.
No one wants our military to be put in danger zones, but there comes a time when it’s necessary.
I’m ashamed of all the nay-sayers, the people who side with the terrorists, and those who want to cripple the POTUS in his proper role as defender of all of us.

    1. srdem65, You’ve probably seem my occasional posts here, so you know I’m no fan. As a “defender of all of us”, do you mean the current POTUS? Do you think he would make any effort to defend his critics? Given the opportunity, this POTUS would let us all burn.

      1. As a young man… I read with great interest when my local small-town newspaper printed the diary entries of a local man who as a ‘boy’ fought in World War 1. He was a war hero of sorts. Captured on No Man’s land by three Germans and marched back toward German lines …. as they approached…he chose to fake a stumble, grab a boot knife and stab one of the Germans — He grabbed a gun and bayoneted another… and then was stabbed in the back by the third… He hit the ground, rolled over and turned to see the German with gun high in the air about to deliver the ending thrust when a US sniper shot the German dead.

Over the next 12 hours — with no use of his arms — he rolled back to the US lines… and then a mortar dodging ride to the French hospital… Where.. my story – his story is relevant to your posts…

Post operation — as he lay in a bed — arms not functioning — the wounded were visited by the American Red Cross… As the workers worked from bed to bed they whispered but loud enough that he heard…

They would not comfort him or help him because he was from Wisconsin — a state where some vocal folks were not enamored with going to Europe to fight a war with Germany — German population of immigrants in Wisconsin is high — my small town church continued to do services also in German well into the 1920’s — Yes. They skipped this war hero… They did not comfort him…. Because of who he was…

So now I ask you — Has Trump said “I will build the wall but only in Texas where they love me some”? Has he decided that California can fend for themselves? No. He has defended them all —

Trump asks a soldier to fight for America. All of the United States of America and all of the citizens therein.

Trump is the President of All the United States.

Some people hate Trump more than they love America… Trump loves America.

        1. If a catastrophe were to occur in California (earthquake/wildfire) on the same scale as a catastrophe in Florida(hurricane/tornado), you’re belief is California can expect the same level and value of resources and at the same speed?

When I wrote he would “let us burn”, it wasn’t a metaphor. We leave the blame game on how California “mis-manages” the National Forest (federal not state, which account for most of the wildfire threat) lands to another thread when we’re discussing the land development mis-management making Hurricane Harvey far more catastrophic than it could have otherwise been.
