In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Michelle Obama to White People: “Y’all Were Running From Us”

Are the Obamas living in a black section of Washington? Or one with lots of immigrants?

No. They’re living in a castle in Kalorama, one of the whitest, richest areas of a majority black city.

According to the Washington Examiner:

Michelle Obama spoke out against “white flight” in a recent interview, saying she experienced it as a kid and that it remains a problem.

“As families like ours — upstanding families like ours who were doing everything we were supposed to do and better — as we moved in, white folks moved out because they were afraid of what our families represented,” the former first lady said Tuesday at the Obama Foundation Summit in Chicago.

“I want to remind white folks that y’all were running from us … This family, with all the values that you read about, you were running from us. And you’re still running because we’re no different than the immigrant families that are moving in,” she continued. “The families that are coming from other places to try to do better. But, because we can so easily wash over who we really were — because of the color of our skin, because of the texture of our hair — that’s what divides countries, artificial things.”

Obama, 55, said she felt a “sense of injustice” and understood from a young age that white people were fleeing her neighborhood.

  1. When I listen to Michelle’s opinions about, well, almost anything, I’m often struck by how out of touch she is with the day to day issues most of us deal with and think about as we live our lives. She lives in a different world than most of us.

  2. Can’t even stomach a response to this – lots of things happened in the “old” days, things still happen, but to suggest that this is still a rampant problem is simply being uninformed. Most people these days move out of a neighborhood because they are moving into a newer or bigger place or the safety of the neighborhood has been jeopardize. Maybe they were able to buy a home somewhere.

  3. The racial complaints have reached the tipping point in the US today. They want equality regardless of skin color(good thing) but want special consideration for skin color (bad thing).
Memo to Michelle: Take care of your own, continue the mentoring you started when you were FLOTUS. Reach into Black communities and promote education as the first step to success.
You have a great following, use it to advance others.

  4. So, let’s see. Michelle married a guy who is 50 percent Black and 50 percent White. So the question is, does one half of Barry like to be with her and the other half of Barry want to run away from her? It must be very confusing for them.

      1. Yes, I suppose it does. ;+}. You’d think the racism in his white half and the racism in his his black half would cancel each other out. But apparently they double the problem rather than neutralize each other. It’s all complicated and confusing to mere mortals like us.

  5. What about the black flight from crime-ridden black neighborhoods? They moved out, too, when segregation ended.

Sometimes I think The Wife lives in a past where she mingles her real experience with imaginings of the Civil Rights era.

  6. Yes. If the Obamas moved into the same town I live in I’d move. I’m afraid ignorance, incompetence and laziness might be air borne contaminants.

  7. Why can’t the Obamas just go away? They seem to think they are still the First Couple, still adored, still relevant. They are both hypocrites, and should spend the rest of their days living the high life in their mansions, instead of spewing their hatred for white people and criticizing President Trump.

    1. I’m sure they are surrounded by just the sort of people whom you describe: adorers. It was that way with the Kennedys, too. Some citizens drank the Kool-Aid and spent the rest of their lives as little satellites.

  8. Wait…”White Flight”? Then, when white people move into black neighborhoods, that’s called “Gentrification”. Could all this just be excuses for blaming other people for your own failures Michelle?
Oddly, the 0bamas spent the past 12 years living and vacationing in the whitest places they could find. Did all the white families leave Kalorama when they moved in?

    1. It’s funny how blacks get all bent out of shape and yell “racism” when gentrification occurs in their neighborhoods. It’s “racist” when whites move away, and “racist” when whites move back in. They can’t have it both ways.

  9. I would love to ask Michelle why her family fled their Chicago mansion? Don’t the Obama’s like their former neighbors, are those neighbors too black for even them, or is it because there are too many bullets flying around their former “hood?”

Why can’t she just shut up and live in one of the many lovely and safe homes she has?
