Mulvaney Says With a Straight Face that Trump Hotel Chosen for G7 on the Merits

White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney told reporters Thursday that President Trump has decided to hold the 2020 G7 meeting at the Trump National Doral Miami.

Incredibly, he appeared to maintain a straight face when saying the White House had selected the Doral because it was the best place to hold the conference and that the place would not earn a profit.

This is such sad and obvious self-dealing. Pretty gross, and pathetic of them to try to even defend it. And so unnecessary, to give Democrats something to pound Trump over just to promote this hotel.

According to the Washington Examiner:

“They are doing this at cost … it will be dramatically cheaper for us to do it at Doral,” Mulvaney said.

Mulvaney said the event would not be a free marketing opportunity for Trump, arguing “Donald Trump’s brand is probably strong enough as it is.”

The G-7 is comprised of seven economically powerful democracies and rotates annual summits among members, including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

The last U.S. summit was hosted in 2012 by then-President Barack Obama at the presidential retreat in Camp David, Maryland. In 2004, George W. Bush presided over a summit on Sea Island, Georgia.

Mulvaney said the Trump-owned property was considered after Trump recommended it to him, but that upon review of a dozen site options, “Doral was by far and away far and away the best physical facility.”

  1. Do you think Trump did this just to drive the hate-filled, anti-American Democrat-socialists crazy…?

Granted this does not look good on Trump…

  2. I remember this:
“By Jim McElhatton – The Washington Times – Tuesday, October 25, 2011
The State Department has bought more than $70,000 worth of books authored by President Obama, sending out copies as Christmas gratuities and stocking “key libraries” around the world with “Dreams From My Father” more than a decade after its release.
The U.S. Embassy in Egypt, for instance, spent $28,636 in August 2009 for copies of Mr. Obama’s best-selling 1995 memoir. Six weeks earlier, the embassy had placed another order for the same book for more than $9,000, federal purchasing records show.
About the same time, halfway around the world, the U.S. Embassy in South Korea had the same idea and spent more than $6,000 for copies of “Dreams From My Father.”
One month later, the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, spent more than $3,800 for hardcover copies of the Indonesian version of Mr. Obama’s “The Audacity of Hope,” records show.”
MrObama directly earned royalties from these purchases while he was POTUS.
    The MSM had zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

    1. Good example of the utter hypocrisy of the Dems and their collaborative friends in the media. If, let’s say, Trump was a fanatic, lefty Dem like Obama in this case with the Doral, then the media, on bended knee, would have, chorus-like, praised Trump 24/7. They would have noted how much money he was saving, etc. Yep, we know the rules of the game they are playing.

  3. The fact that many here are able to justify and wave off even this speaks volumes. And it’s not like this is just one instance. President Trump has spent 308 of his 1002 days as president (almost A THIRD of his time in office) at his own properties. Even if he and his family was making $0 dollars off these visits, it would still be hard to swallow a modern-day president taking that much R&R time.

But I honestly do not understand how we can be screaming about Hunter Biden’s decision to take the board position (which, by the way, was wrong) and be able to defend this with a straight face. It’s insane.

  4. Well, they got their wish: it’s going to be held elsewhere.

Frankly, I hope they move it to some blue city, and make security around the summit so airtight, that the locals will need a police escort to use the toilet.

Give them what they want, and give it to them good and hard. Make some snooty leftist city nigh on uninhabitable, for the duration of the summit, and make the Democrats own it.
