In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

NY Times Uncovers a New Accomplice in El Paso Shooting: Conservative Media

Incredible. I can see only one guilty party revealed by this article: The participation of the New York Times in the destruction of journalism by printing an opinion piece, and a highly illogical and irresponsible one, in the news section of the paper.

And this one is particularly malignant. It attempts to suggest that because there are words and phrases included in the killer’s manifesto that are spoken by conservative media to describe mass, often illegal immigration, then therefore conservative media had a role in the killing.

They don’t say that, but that’s clearly what they are trying to get across.

The speech police in the press, of all places, have decided that if you use strong language, you could be guilty of murder.

This is so dumb I simply can’t believe that five reporters and no doubt numerous editors participated in it. That’s the power of Trump Derangement Syndrome and the media’s hatred of conservatives.

From the New York Times piece:

Tucker Carlson went on his prime-time Fox News show in April last year and told his viewers not to be fooled. The thousands of Central Americans on their way to the United States were “border jumpers,” not refugees, he said. “Will anyone in power do anything to protect America this time,” he asked, “or will leaders sit passively back as the invasion continues?”

When another group approached the border six months later, Ann Coulter, appearing as a guest on Jeanine Pirro’s Fox News show, offered a dispassionately violent suggestion about what could be done to stem the flow of migrants: “You can shoot invaders.”

A few days after, Rush Limbaugh issued a grim prognosis to his millions of radio listeners: If the immigrants from Central America weren’t stopped, the United States would lose its identity. “The objective is to dilute and eventually eliminate or erase what is known as the distinct or unique American culture,” Mr. Limbaugh said, adding: “This is why people call this an invasion.”

There is a striking degree of overlap between the words of right-wing media personalities and the language used by the Texas man who confessed to killing 22 people at a Walmart in El Paso this month. In a 2,300-word screed posted on the website 8chan, the killer wrote that he was “simply defending my country from cultural and ethnic replacement brought on by an invasion.”

It remains unclear what, or who, ultimately shaped the views of the white, 21-year-old gunman, or whether he was aware of the media commentary. But his post contains numerous references to “invasion” and cultural “replacement” — ideas that, until recently, were relegated to the fringes of the nationalist right.

An extensive New York Times review of popular right-wing media platforms found hundreds of examples of language, ideas and ideologies that overlapped with the mass killer’s written statement — a shared vocabulary of intolerance that stokes fears centered on immigrants of color. The programs, on television and radio, reach an audience of millions.

“It remains unclear what, or who, ultimately shaped the views of the white, 21-year-old gunman, or whether he was aware of the media commentary,” the Times writes. But, well, who the hell cares? Let’s indict Tucker Carlson as a co-conspirator.

These journalists seem to think they have done something scientific. What they have done is garbage.

But all their peers in the liberal mainstream press will think they are wonderful for going after those awful conservatives. That’s no small part of what this is about.

Oh, and BTW, somebody has got to do something about this invasion of illegal immigrants from Mexico.

  1. Hi Keith. Why are the words “invasion” and cultural “replacement” bolded & highlighted yellow in the New York Times article?

  2. The NYTimes is preaching to the choir. Again.
No one out here in fly-over country gives a hoo-haw what they think there, nor is anything they imply going to change any votes here.

Info: As a registered Dem I am getting robo-calls warning me that President Trump is a “racist and a bigot” and I should support the Dem party with as much money as I can spare. The Dems are scared silly as they see a humiliating landslide next year that just might put the Repubs back in DC.

    1. Sunday Maria Bartiromo interviewed Steve Bannon. He said none of the current crop of candidates can win. He thinks Bloomberg, Hillary or Michelle will jump in at the right time.

The GOP just has to win the House in order to get anything done.

  3. There just aren’t words. I have a friend who is Japanese and lives in japan. She shared recently about the onslaught of the Chinese buying up real estate and trying to change their culture and/or identity and they aren’t happy about it. She is a kind loving person who has embraced many from different cultures. Why is it so wrong to protect our culture yet welcome those who want to assimilate and share their history with us. That’s what many before them have done yet they celebrate their new country’s way of life. When I visited Japan years okay while in Tokyo Another friend took us to their world war 2 memorial. I asked him if it would be appropriate for me to enter. He said absolutely. I was welcomed by others there. I would never attempt to change their culture and if I decided to be s Japanese citizen I would embrace their culture and learn their language. I’ve probably gotten off topic but it is so disturbing to hear these allegations over and over. Fortunately I guess is the majority of people pay no attention to this garbage. We know in our heart there are seriously ill people who do these things. They quote tucker Carlson and I see he’s once again a subject of intense scrutiny. Listen to his show. He is taken way out of context. His show explores so many things that aren’t immigrant and Russia oriented. He does make one think.

    1. Wendy, Japan is the second most popular country for Americans to collect Social Security. It is behind Canada but ahead of Mexico. I am in Panama and we are way down the list at 2,200. I attempt to speak their version of Spanish which is very different than Tex-Mex which I am use to. I do not attempt to change their culture nor do I discuss politics.

Here is the list of countries. Scroll down to get the complete list.

  4. Tucker Carlson is smart, resourceful and young. There’s been some talk of him having a late night talk show. That’s got to scare the “bejeebers” out of the left and the left-wing press, especially rags such as the NY Times and the Washington Post.

    1. He’s 50, so I don’t know if I would consider him “young” – but since I’m four years older than he is, I’ll agree! You’re definitely correct in saying he scares the heck out of the left.

I noticed some new talking points on TV today from the Dem operatives – Trump is a “historically weak president” and is presiding over a “failed presidency.” They really do get their marching orders to push their (false) narrative.

      1. Ha! And the logical, sane person just ignores this crap speech & stands with President Trump. The left uses adjectives like the thesaurus is about to be burnt to death; name calling in lieu of substance.

    2. Tucker expresses his disagreements with the president too, especially twitter use and I do agree with him there. No one is exempt from his analysis. He does his homework. Don’t always care for his guests and someI refuse to listen to but if you really pay attention to his intro and other story backgrounds he does a good job of playing the devils advocate too. I think he’s the best all around host. If you want a great dose of humor but also candid observations, Greg Gutfield is a great choice. He makes me laugh and most of the time he is spot on.

  5. The NYT is slowly going out of business, largely because they long, long ago stopped reporting the “news” as objectively as they could. They don’t even try now. And we all know it. Here are some interesting stats on their circulation numbers:

“In 2018, the average weekday circulation of the New York Times was 487 thousand copies. This marks a significant drop from over 1.03 million a decade earlier and continues the downward trend which has been evident for the last few years.”

  6. Talk about DEFLECTION.The Left Main Street Media Companies ie ABC, CBS,NBC,CNN,MSNBC,all are Way More Responsible for any violence then any right leaning media..

  7. Keep blaming people for something they have nothing to do with and one of these days they’re just not going to care anymore and actually do something worse.

What do they have to lose? They’ll be blamed anyways.
