In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris Support Reparations

Even Bernie isn’t backing reparations. At least not yet.

According to Fox News:

Two leading Democratic presidential candidates — U.S. Sens. Kamala Harris of California and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts — have reportedly said they support reparationsfor black Americans affected by slavery, reflecting a shift in the importance of race and identity issues within the party.

The New York Times reported Thursday that Harris doubled down on her support for reparations after agreeing with a host on the popular radio show “The Breakfast Club” that the race-conscious policy was necessary to address the legacies of slavery and discrimination in the United States.

“We have to be honest that people in this country do not start from the same place or have access to the same opportunities,” Harris said in the statement to the Times. “I’m serious about taking an approach that would change policies and structures and make real investments in black communities.”

Warren also supports reparations. “We must confront the dark history of slavery and government-sanctioned discrimination in this country that has had many consequences, including undermining the ability of black families to build wealth in America for generations,” she told the Times. “We need systemic, structural changes to address that.”

  1. That reparations thing might have sounded really good years ago, but today’s forensic advances should be one of the main reasons to abandon the giveaway. Three letters: DNA.

Almost everyone here in the USA will find their ancestors had a beginning in Africa according to modern DNA testing. Being able to claim a relationship to someone who might have been a slave will throw the whole giveaway into oblivion.
Then there’s the bi-racial thing, too.
    Bad idea all around.

  2. Must a very complicated formula to decide how much we will get. Can’t wait to get mine. Only bad thing is I’m white and would have to miss a day of work to get my money. Since old Liz Warren failed on her old heritage, maybe she’s now black and can get in with that race. What a fraud that whole thing is.

    1. Maybe she’ll try the Rachel Dolezal thing now and give reparations to herself. You know, the same way she benefited from being the “first woman of color” on the faculty at Harvard Law School.

    2. That’s true. Lizzy seems to be grabbing for membership in a new minority group now that the Indians are less enchanted with her.

Remember the Pigford fake farmer giveaway. This reparations thing might go forward and produce checks for some people. Scams that are embedded in the gov’t ….

  3. “…undermining the ability of black families to build wealth in America for generations.”
    Oh bs. example; Herman Cain.
    (Black celebrities, entertainers….athletes).
The whole reparations idea is a stinkfest of idiotic proportions.

  4. No problem with reparations. Show me someone alive today who was a slave.

I think 600,000+ lives lost to free the slave would be adequate reparations. Simply calculate the value these people would have given the nation had they lived vs the value of slave labor.

Oh, and get the British to pay reparations for the first 167 years from 1607-1776.

    1. Yes. My ancestor died fighting for the Union army. His widow was left with two little boys. She died three years later. The boys were orphans and went to live with relatives.

This all interfered with their ability to “build wealth” and had a negative impact on the “wealth building” of those relatives.

      Where is my check?

  5. OK, let’s just say that in an alternate universe that doesn’t actually exist we really DID have the money to pay reparations. 5, 10 years down the road, all the money (ok, most?) would no doubt have been squandered, much like all the money spent over the past 50 years on The War on Poverty.

  6. Bad, bad, bad idea. If you give reparations to black people, you’ll have to give it to native/aboriginals as well. Where is all the money to come from? We could all claim reparations. How far back should we go? Shall we try to get money from Italy, because Romans? Or from Scandinavian countries, because Vikings? The concept is utterly ridiculous.

  7. Reparations my ass. This is government-sanctioned theft.

What Group X historically did to Group Y, does not justify Person A’s crime against Person B today.

And when Person A’s crime is robbing Person B, in order to bribe a vote out of Person C, the response needs to be a society-wide cry of HELL. NO.

And, for what it’s worth, given that the intended recipients have a bit of a track record of turning America’s working-class cities into war zones (see, e.g., Baltimore, Detroit, St. Louis, Birmingham, Chicago…), it’s fair to ask if this isn’t just throwing good money after bad.

  8. Dem candidates are rushing left to see who can get the farthest left of the leftists…Don’t be surprised to see somebody show up in Che Guevara t-shirts…from Chanel, but t-shirts…a hammer and sickle arm band or two shouldn’t be a surprise either…
