Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Luxury Digs: No Poor People Allowed

Well, it looks like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez did, in fact, find an apartment, despite her concerns about affordable housing in Washington. A nice one.

And why shouldn’t socialists live the good life while fighting to take it away from others? It’s not easy to foster social change if there aren’t a couple of swimming pools at hand in which to relax and if your apartment lacks the proper feng shui.

According to the Washington Examiner:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., recently moved into a luxury apartment complex in Washington, D.C. that does not offer the affordable housing units that were a key plank in the New York congresswoman’s campaign platform. Ocasio-Cortez, 29, who said in November that she was concerned about being able to afford rent in D.C., now earns a $174,000 annual salary and is living in a newly built high-rise in the city’s Navy Yard area, the Washington Free Beacon reported last week.

Ocasio-Cortez’s new building — built by leading D.C. developer WC Smith — is part of a luxury complex whose owners specifically do not offer affordable units under Washington, D.C.’s Affordable Dwelling Units program. The Washington Examiner is not naming the building or complex.

In 2018, a civil rights attorney suedthe Washington, D.C. government for allegedly discriminatory gentrification policies, claiming that development in Navy Yard area and other parts of southeast D.C. encouraged an influx of affluent “millennial creatives” who displaced minority residents. Her new apartment complex — which boasts on its website that it vows to take “luxury apartment living” to a higher level — offers over 100,000 square feet of amenities for its residents.

These include: two private massage rooms with state-of-the-art hydrotherapy beds; men’s and women’s saunas; a full-scale demonstration kitchen with wood-fired pizza oven; a 25-meter indoor lap pool; a rooftop infinity pool with panoramic views of the Capitol; a Peloton cycling studio with over a dozen bikes; and a fireside lounge featuring a Steinway & Sons player piano. Also included is a PGA-grade golf simulation lounge with a wrap-around screen and viewing bar that allows residents to play virtually at dozens of the world’s most exclusive golf courses with the touch of a button.

  1. AOC sure seems to be going from rags to riches in a hurry, doesn’t she? She was purportedly a half-broke bartender a year ago, and now she’s in a building that’s asking $1840 a month for a studio. Talk about “Movin’ On Up”…

Granted, she shouldn’t have to be endangering herself in some of DC’s sketchier neighborhoods. I’ll concede that all day. As Rick Blaine never said, “Well, there are certain sections of Washington, Major, that I wouldn’t advise you to try and rent an apartment.” I get it.

On the other hand, though…a virtual golf course? Multiple pools? A demonstration kitchen?

Really, how much apartment does a congresscritter need? And more to the point, how can anyone call themselves a champion of the downtrodden, when they’re living in an apartment complex that has massage rooms with hydro-freaking-therapy beds?

And they still haven’t figured out why half the country voted for Trump?

  2. And I’ll bet a paycheck that it has state of the art security systems and a security wall and gate. Maybe even a moat and a drawbridge. ‘Cause you know, keep out the undesirables.

  3. What will this dimwit be doing, to earn $174,0000 a year? It’s outrageous. Not bad for a 29 year old ex-bartender. If she was a true socialist, wouldn’t she refuse such perks?

    • That’s the whole point. Just like in Communist Russia. The Party members are the vanguard who must defend the people from counter-revolutionary bourgeois reactionaries (i.e. you and me).

  4. You should know she needs all if this to look down on the Kingdom and the peasants. She deserves this while taking away what you have. This will be Medicare for all. They will still have theirs, while we wait in line for some 3rd rate hack of a doctor to treat us.
