A couple of things happened this last week that were not covered by the press.
Trump placed sanctions on BanPro in Nicaragua. Sandinista workers for the government banked there. There was a run on the bank.
Iran unveiled a new long range missile. Panama dropped 60 Iranian ships for their ship registry. The registry allows countries to fly the Panamanian flag. Panama does not want to face USA sanctions.
