Former NY Times Editor Says Paper’s “News” Reporting is Anti-Trump

It’s nice when a former leading member of the MSM, ex-New York Times editor Jill Abramson, fesses up to the obvious: Not only is the newspaper anti-Trump, but it makes money off of hating on the president.

According to Fox News:

In a soon-to-be published book, “Merchants of Truth,” that casts a skeptical eye on the news business, Abramson defends the Times in some ways but offers some harsh words for her successor, Dean Baquet. And Abramson, who was the paper’s only female executive editor until her firing, invoked Steve Bannon’s slam that in the Trump era the mainstream media have become the “opposition party.”

“Though Baquet said publicly he didn’t want the Times to be the opposition party, his news pages were unmistakably anti-Trump,” Abramson writes, adding that she believes the same is true of the Washington Post. “Some headlines contained raw opinion, as did some of the stories that were labeled as news analysis.”

Actually, the Washington Post is even worse, driven, I suspect, by owner Jeff Bezos’s dislike of Trump.

I find that I have to read the MSM, not only for professional reasons, but because if you can filter out the bias there are still stories in there with valuable information and good reporting.

If you want to get some news from the MSM, the least biased of these supposedly non-partisan newspapers are the Wall Street Journal and The Hill. Politico is biased, but not quite as bad as the Times or the Washington Post.

  1. Every week they find a new outrage to their tender sensibilities and every day a sinister twist to a mundane event.
The publications named have yet to find some advantage, some positive action or result to anything MrTrump has done in two years. Nothing, nada, not one good thing to report.

And yet, MrTrump’s support remains the same, his base understands that he can’t do it all alone, and knows who to blame. We don’t blame the publications that cater to a sore loser population, but rather those in Congress who are terrified of finding their name in some negative story.
Most voters don’t read the NYT or the WashPost at all, don’t watch CNN or MSNBC or even the national evening news so their vitriol is only absorbed by those who are the opposition and need to be fed what they like to hear every day.

  2. Yesterday I watched MSNBC, CNN, Fox plus at night ABC from Australia, National TV from Canad, France 24 from Paris and DW from Berlin. I want different view points. They all lead with shutdown and then stock market. CNN tried to make a big deal about Melanie spending her time in Florida. I recall Obama and Michelle going their separate ways. To Fox’s credit they had a talking head who had a list of good things Trump has done and a list of the things he had done poorly.

Right now I am watching C Span on You Tube. The swearing in and election of speaker.

In Florida the New York Times is sold along side of Florida Today.

Carlos Slim has a large investment in the NY Time. He put in $250 million and recently old $40 million of it. But I do not think he has an influence on content. It is an investment to him.
