As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

How Trump Saved the Kavanaugh Nomination

The Washingon Post actually gives President Trump credit without overdoing the attacks on him – including a headline calling him the “ultimate fighter.”

Once again, Trump went with his instincts, against the advice of those who supposedly know better. He was accused of “mocking” Christine Blasey Ford. While I have sympathy for her, assuming something terrible did happen to her, the fact is she put herself out there in a debate that would determine the future of the Supreme Court and potentially ruin a man and his family. Trump’s point was that she needed to have some proof, and she didn’t have any, and his effort to highlight this helped change the debate.

From the piece:

Again and again, President Trump was instructed not to do it. A cadre of advisers, confidants and lawmakers all urged him — implored him, really — not to personally attack the women who had accused Supreme Court nominee Brett M. Kavanaugh of sexual assault.

So he did it anyway.

Addressing thousands at a boisterous rally in Mississippi, Trump relied on his own visceral sense of the moment and mocked Christine Blasey Ford for gaps in her memory, directly impugning the accuser’s credibility.

Establishment Republicans initially reacted with horror. But Trump’s 36-second off-script jeremiad proved a key turning point toward victory for the polarizing nominee, White House officials and Kavanaugh allies said, turbocharging momentum behind Kavanaugh just as his fate appeared most in doubt.

And in Washington, Republican senators — though they condemned Trump’s mockery of Ford — felt emboldened to aggressively demand Kavanaugh’s confirmation, which became a near-certainty Friday and looks to become official with a vote Saturday.

“As long as he was willing to go to the mat for him, it fortified probably people up here, too,” said Sen. John Thune (S.D.), the chamber’s third-ranking Republican leader.

THIS IS WHY REPUBLICANS NOMINATED TRUMP. Rubio or Jeb probably would have caved, perhaps influenced by a survivor of sexual assault with an agenda, as Jeff Flake was. Trump stood his ground.

  1. Little Marco and Jeb! are Koch-sucking Rove Republican swill, and would never even have nominated Kavanaugh in the first place. Much less Gorsuch before him.

  2. Yep. Trump does have good instincts and he stood his ground. Others would have caved in weeks ago.

A further point. In their hysterical response to all things Trump, they have revealed themselves for what they really are. The Donald has unmasked the far lefty loons who have taken over the Democrat party. They present themselves, when things are going their way, as nice, “we are here for you”, we are sensitive to your needs, we are are only thinking of your good”.

In their violent efforts to destroy Trump, they have dropped that disguise. They have shown who they really are and what drives them: they are screaming mobs who are willing to utterly destroy anyone and do anything to those who don’t agree with them. Everybody sees it. And their behavior throughout the Kavanaugh ordeal proves to everyone they are not worthy of governing, of having any influence in the affairs of our beloved Republic. They are an out of control, dangerous mob, and that’s all they are.

      • Yes, the enthusiastic support of corporate media, always on the hunt for outrageous, over the top, out of the norm stories, is the lifeblood of these fanatic lefties. They live to be “on television”.

  3. A talking head on Fox News just made a comment that Republicans senators are now pushing back. She did not think they would have two years ago. She mentioned Grassley, Graham and Cornyn. I think Trump is having an effect on the Senators. They are showing some back bone. Trump was only stating what was obvious to us.

    • Yes. Finally. So many rinos have been dirty mean & deranged. Yet, just witness the massive crowds President Trump accrues at all his MAGA and election rallies.

  4. Watching tv coverage of the steps of the Supreme Court: police are either removing or arresting protesters now.
This whole affair , from start tofinish, is stunningly so unlike the America of just a few years ago. Violent, mean-spirited, because of opposite views.

    • srdem65, it is good to see you are back. I think someone is paying the protesters.

Right now I am watching Texas-Oklahoma. I’ll turn in when the Senate votes.

      • Someone IS paying them. You and I are, as they are likely on the gubmint dole, and have time to organize their tantrums, essentially biting the hand that feeds them.

  5. Poor little Jeb Bush. $100 million spent for what, two votes?

Illegals killing, raping, and terrorizing citizens is “an act of love.”

Thank God the Bush dynasty is over.

Don’t get me wrong – I liked his father. The Fall of the Berlin Wall, the collapse of Communism in Eastern Europe, and the DEFEAT of the Soviet Union could have been major world screw-ups. And HW’s shrewd diplomacy made sure they weren’t. Then along came Bubba and Madeline Halfbright.

    • G.H.W.Bush (the elder) ,aka ‘Poppy’ in Skull & Bones membership nomenclature ,introduced ‘the new world order’ at a UN speech & the new age ‘thousand points of light’ at some other gathering of the high & mighty.

      • GHW Bush was always butt-hurt that Reagan beat him in ’80 in the primaries, even though Reagan made him his veep which enabled him to run in ’88. And then as soon as he could he started throwing shade on Reagan; it was a disgusting display of disloyalty and I for one thank the Lord each and every day that our VSG PDJT has put a stake in the Bush dynasty (along with the crooked Clintons!).
