Temporary sanity broke out Friday morning on MSNBC’s Morning Joe as the hosts derided Democratic leaks that a letter exists suggesting Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh did something wrong to a girl during high school, 25 years ago.
“This looks like a cheap last-minute trick by Democrats – whether you’re for Kavanaugh or not,” said host Joe Scarborough.
At this point, the insinuation qualifies as a smear because we don’t know exactly what Kavanaugh is even accused of.
Let’s think about this. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., announces she has a letter that says something terrible about Kavanaugh and that she’s referring it to the FBI. But the person who gave her the letter doesn’t want to be identified or talk publicly about it. I mean, honestly, how convenient.
There are several senators, including Republicans Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, who are in the process of making an agonizing political decision about whether to back Kavanaugh. Collins and Murkowski are both reportedly under pressure from home to oppose him. This is just the type of thing that makes it more difficult to get to “yes,” and that could land you at “no,” just to be safe, and Democrats, of course, know it.
