Cohen Secretly Recorded Trump Talking About Payment to Karen McDougal

President Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen secretly recorded Trump discussing a payment to Karen McDougal, presumably to buy her silence about the alleged affair to two had.

McDougal and Trump, not Cohen and Trump, of course.

However, it’s not completely clear to me what this means. While awfully tawdry, Trump current White House attorney Rudy Giuliani says the payment discussed was never made, and it shows Trump did not know about the one that was.

Anyway, from the New York Times:

President Trump’s longtime lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, secretly recorded a conversation with Mr. Trump two months before the presidential election in which they discussed payments to a former Playboy model who said she had an affair with Mr. Trump, according to lawyers and others familiar with the recording.

The F.B.I. seized the recording this year during a raid on Mr. Cohen’s office.

Rudolph W. Giuliani, Mr. Trump’s personal lawyer, confirmed in a telephone conversation on Friday that Mr. Trump had discussed payments to Ms. McDougal with Mr. Cohen on the tape. He said the recording was less than two minutes long, said Mr. Trump did not know he was being recorded and claimed that the president had done nothing wrong.

Mr. Giuliani said there was no indication on the tape that Mr. Trump knew before the conversation about the payment from the Enquirer’s parent company, American Media Inc., to Ms. McDougal.

“Nothing in that conversation suggests that he had any knowledge of it in advance,” Mr. Giuliani said.

The men discussed a payment from Mr. Trump to Ms. McDougal — separate from the Enquirer payment — to buy her story and ensure her silence, Mr. Giuliani said. That payment was never made, Mr. Giuliani said, adding that Mr. Trump had told Mr. Cohen that if he were to make a payment related to the woman, to write a check rather than send cash, so it could be properly documented.

Because the tape showed Mr. Trump learning about the A.M.I. payment, it actually helps Mr. Trump, Mr. Giuliani argued. “In the big scheme of things, it’s powerful exculpatory evidence,” he said.

  1. Two words:
    1. So What
    2. Who Cares
If this is true, if it happened, then it proves again that predatory women seek out wealthy men so that they can extort or blackmail them into a big jackpot for their silence.

    1. At the very least, he has violated campaign financing laws. Who knows what else was captured in those tapes?
Also, looks like Trump threw Cohen under the bus. This was someone who said he will take bullet for him. Trump doesn’t care about anyone but himself.
So now, Cohen has cut a deal with the Feds to save his skin. That’s not going to be good for Trump.

      1. “At the very least, he has violated campaign financing laws.”

In what way? He wasn’t even running for office!

Go back to your basement, this isn’t CNN.

      2. The core issue here seems to be that Cohen SECRETLY (his own description) the lawyer/client discussions he had with Trump. And then he leaked the tapes or transcripts to the media. This violates so many legal canons and laws that one doesn’t know where to start. Why isn’t Cohen up before the Bar to explain all this?

        1. Sounds similar to the secretly recorded BillyBush tape. I wonder how many conversations were secretly recorded involving Obama or Hillary, and I’ll we ever hear about them?

    2. Let’s see.
He didn’t sell 20% of America’s uranium to Russia.
Trump didn’t leave an American Ambassador along with 3 brave men to die in Bengazi.
Trump didn’t take millions of $$$ earmarked for Haiti then stiff them.
      Need I go on?

      1. So mentioning the special treatment her majesty Hillary received for her crime spree (violation of the Espionage Act, etc, etc.) makes you very nervous and testy, it appears. We can understand that. House of Cards and all that.

      2. “Stop using arguments about Hilary to defend Trump.”

There were two choices. Making comparisons to Hillary is entirely appropriate.

    3. “So Trump did nothing wrong in having an affair while his wife was pregnant?”

You and your ilk screeched at us years ago that what happens between two, consenting adults is none of our business.

Don’t come bitching now because we agree with you.

    4. Did Bill Clinton do nothing wrong in having an affair, with someone who could have been his daughter, while humiliating Hillary? We know Trump isn’t a choirboy, that’s not why millions of us voted for him.

  2. I know Trump was a coward for ducking draft when the country needed him during the Vietnam war. But favoring his 17 intelligence agencies and siding with a known enemy is treasonous.
I know he read some vague statement the next day, but he didn’t have the guts to say it in front of Putin. So weak.

    1. Only four or the Intelligence Agencies concluded that Trump MAY have colluded with the Russians. The other 13 intelligence agencies concluded that there was NO evidence of collusion. Try and keep up, K?

      1. The question the reporter asked was not about collusion but about if Trump believed Putin or believed his own intelligence services. Try and keep up, K?

    2. Your info is so, so old, and wrong.
You have to stop watching CNN.

Oh, and by the way, Trump has bone spurs, the military wouldn’t take him.

    3. So Obama giving Iran billions of $$$$$ and pledging “flexibility” after the election with Russia (the very same Russia and Putin) is just as treasonous. Right? What’s your opinion on that? We’re waiting for your response.
