As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

John King Called on Own Company to Apologize to Ivanka Over Samantha Bee Slur

Okay, here’s a moment of serious journalistic integrity.

John King of CNN, which like TBS – which runs Samantha Bee’s show – is owned by Turner Broadcasting, called on the company to apologize to Ivanka Trump for Bee’s use of the “C” word to describe her.

“Apologize. Apologize.” King said to Bee after describing Bee’s comment as “vile” and “reprehensible.” Then King added: “And the company, forgive me, I work here, but the company should say something too.”

Maybe they were watching, because after half a day of nothing, both Turner Broadcasting and Bee soon apologized.

John King is an excellent journalist who, as far as I can tell, continues to adhere to the old rule that you should at least strive to be objective. Unfortunately, he is surrounded by others who appear on TV and write for major newspapers who have no idea what that’s all about.

They are what used to be known as “hacks” and are now known as “journalists.”

King’s call, out of principle, for his own company to apologize is an act of courage you don’t often see in a town far more notable for weasely climbers and sycophants.

The comment comes at the very end of the segment below, at the 4:30 mark.

“I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it,” Bee subsequently said in a statement.

“Samantha Bee has taken the right action in apologizing for the vile and inappropriate language she used about Ivanka Trump last night,” Turner Broadcasting wrote. “Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it.”

Those are pretty good apologies. Not the typical, “If anyone was offended . . . ” pseudo-regrets. Of course, the show should be canceled for such vileness, but society apparently has “evolved” to the point where these things are permitted.

Here’s what Bee had said:

“Ivanka Trump, who works at the White House, chose to post the second most oblivious tweet we’ve seen this week,” Bee said, saying Roseanne Barr’s racist tweet about Valerie Jarrett was the first.

“You know, Ivanka, that’s a beautiful photo of you and your child, but let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless c***!”

She added that President Trump listens to Ivanka and that she should, “Put on something tight and low-cut and tell your father to f***ing stop it. Tell him it was an Obama thing and see how it goes, OK?”

Here is the tweet Bee was objecting too.

Such a beautiful shot with a child. The comedian must be – at the risk of Nancy Pelosi’s wrath – some kind of animal, apology or not.

  1. Sadly, this isn’t the culture our parents taught us. Imagine, what are grandchildren will be faced with.
Our narcissistic impulses require that each person be more vile and outrageous than the person who last posted something on Twitter. That’s the only way to be recognized.
Unfortunately, major adjustments will require at least 2 generations. Optimistically.

  2. Good for John King. The irony of all this – both hers and Roseann’s comments (while trying to be funny) were so out of line, yet one can apologize and her show continues and the other cancelled. Perhaps it is the difference between network and cable television where the language is noticeably different. In addition, the rush to blame others for this behavior is childish. Mr. Trump certainly has his faults, as do we all, but he is not responsible for what other “adults” may say. Those who try to perpetuate that are opportunists. If you honestly believe these incidents are simply because Mr. Trump is President you are not being honest. The general decorum in this country has been declining for some time – well before Mr. Trump.

  3. “Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it.”

A key sentence in the TBS apology. The show is pre-recorded, so they could have easily not aired the offending comment…but instead they knowingly let it go.

  4. Actress Sally Fields doubled down on the offensive comment today. She says Ivanka is “lower than a c**t”.
How. Why. This is sickening talk.
These attacks on conservative women and anyone related to PresTrump are not just horrible insults, but reveal liberal women to be monsters who would cut and wound without remorse.

    • It should come as no surprise. Liberal women support abortion. That is as low as you can go, killing your unborn child. Yes, liberal women are amoral monsters.

  5. The hard, fascist Left is incapable of a sincere apology when it has willfully insulted others who disagree with them. It’s just not in their genes. They are ALWAYS correct, and see no need to feel sorry about anything they say. On the other hand, they demand that we apologized for everything we do or say. That’s how crazy they are.

  6. “I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it,”

You wrote the line. You broadcast the line. And now you ‘apologize’ for crossing it?

    Nope.

They knew full-well what they were doing. The apology means nothing.
