Uh oh. See what I’m talking about? This is the danger for President Trump. Deprive him of people like Steve Bannon and others who understand why the Republican base voted for him, and he starts to sound like the Bushes.
“We are here today to advance bipartisan immigration reform that serves the needs of the American families, workers and taxpayers. It’s DACA,” Trump said a meeting on DACA at the White House. “Maybe we can do something. We have a lot of good people in this room, a lot of people that have a great spirit for taking care of people we represent.”
The gathering included leading Senate Democrats, like Richard Durbin, and pro-amnesty Republican senators like Jeff Flake and Lindsey Graham.
“I am very much reliant on the people in this room,” Trump said. He is? Why?
“I have great confidence . . . if they come to me with things I’m not in love with, I’m going to do it because I respect them,” he said.
He does? Why?
He added: “I feel having the Democrats in with us is absolutely vital because it should be a bipartisan bill. It should be a bill of love. Truly. It should be a bill of love. But it also has to be a bill where we’re able to secure our border. Drugs are pouring into our country at a record pace. A lot of people coming in that we can’t have.”
Trump also continued to insist on a wall with Mexico. But he noted it did not have to extend over the entire border because of natural landmarks like rivers and mountains.
Here’s Trump earlier today.
Oh, I’m sorry, this is Trump.
