In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Trump Releases Kennedy Assassination Files but Holds Some Back

President Trump today made the following statement on the release. The total number of files being given to the public amounts top about 2,800.

The American public expects — and deserves — its Government to provide as much access as possible to the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records (records) so that the people may finally be fully informed about all aspects of this pivotal event. Therefore, I am ordering today that the veil finally be lifted. At the same time, executive departments and agencies (agencies) have proposed to me that certain information should continue to be redacted because of national security, law enforcement, and foreign affairs concerns. I have no choice –today — but to accept those redactions rather than allow potentially irreversible harm to our Nation’s security. To further address these concerns, I am also ordering agencies to re-review each and every one of those redactions over the next 180 days. At the end of that period, I will order the public disclosure of any information that the agencies cannot demonstrate meets the statutory standard for continued postponement of disclosure under section 5(g)(2)(D) of the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992 (44 U.S.C. 2107 note) (the “Act”).

BTW, Politico has a good guide to viewing the files on your own.

  1. I was sitting on the couch watching my fav soap opera when the terrible news appeared on the screen. I followed the investigation as it unfolded, the hearings, read the “Warren Commission” report- front to back, and I don’t believe Oswald acted alone.
Why? the magic bullet, Jack Ruby, and Officer Tibbet. If you followed the facts, you know what I’m talking about.

  2. The Assasination took place in 1964.

The Warren Report was completed 25 years ago.

I would hope there is some tough guidelines for keeping files from being released. Supposedly I heard another 6 months for the agencies to explain why they need the documents not be released…

    Just rewatched Parkland last week…

  3. 54 years later, I cannot fathom any security issues associated with information – technology has moved on. Are they waiting for everyone born before 1963 to die before they release all information?

    1. A neighbor mentioned the same thing about waiting until most everyone who really cares is dead and gone…then it will fade from the public consciousness into historical oblivion.

    2. Why should the under 40 year-olds take any interest in in 20th/21st century ‘history’ that mostly consists of well planned, timed, & executed assassinations, mass shootings, wrongly won wars & wrongly lost wars? Yes, the ‘keepers of the truth rabbit hole’ will wait ‘til every last baby boomer is dead (1945-65 hep-c generation) in order that the ultraprotected class of victims within the former western nations since WWII, who masterminded said events to sicken & waste away western culture & whose agenda the boomers ignorantly absorbed then splattered out as the coup de gras of classic America, will remain blameless as bystanders, always pulling the strings. Redact on!

  4. I remember watching TV after one of the Warren commission hearings when Warren stepped out and said “the facts of this case will not be known in our lifetime.”
And I thought: Huh! If this schnook did it what can be so secret.
I became a “grassy knoll” believer at that time. Still am.

  5. Continuing to withhold “certain” information about the JFK assassination after all these years just amplifies the idea that there must be something REALLY big “they” (the government? certain interests? certain individuals? other governments? who knows?) are trying desperately to hide from the public. Who or what is being protected? Just release the whole thing, every page, and be done with it. We’re all big boys and girls. We can take it. We survived eight years of the Obama War On The American People, didn’t we? We can deal with knowing the whole story of the JFK assassination.

  6. Cavuto had a few “millennials” on his show this afternoon, and most of them don’t care at all about this because it happened “before their time.” And these were educated, professional young people, not your typical ignorant college students we see interviewed so often.

What was disturbing to me was their almost total lack of interest in history…I wasn’t born until 1965, but became fascinated with the assassination before I was even a teenager. I was always interested in historic events, especially those before my time. For the young people today, it’s almost like they can’t be bothered with the past, or anything that doesn’t affect them today. It’s truly the new “Me Generation”…times a thousand.
