In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

    1. I’ll leave your opinion that it’s “good news”, but I find it shameful and un-American that it’s news.
It may be too little, too late to undo the damage that the kneeling event did to their game and brand.
It may be true that the wealthy owners of football teams are afraid of their employees, but that could have changed when lawyers told them they didn’t have to pay any footballer who refused to play and could then hire others (cheaply) waiting for their chance at fame and fortune.
There’s a lot going on in the background, we’ll find out sooner or later.

    2. Someone pointed out that the NFL has long-term media deals in place, so the league is guaranteed to make money in the short term.

Meanwhile, guess who loses money? All the networks that carry the NFL. The upshot of that, is that Trump may well have aimed for the kneelers, and hit the media instead.

Unless, of course, that was what he was aiming for all along, in a sort of “Your move, creep,” manner.

  1. In other news there is violence in the Catalan referendum vote. I wanted to learn why they want to be independence from Spain. This is what I found.

“Local Catalan political parties began to actively agitate for independence on the back of a failing national economy and a sense that the region was paying more in taxes than it was getting back in benefits.
“Spain convinced Catalans to become independent. They created this situation,” said Marc Gafarot, a political analyst at the Barcelona Center for International Affairs. “Catalonia was simply asking for a reduction of participation in a Spanish tax system that transferred money from the richest regions to the poorest. It was clearly targeting and exploiting the Catalonian region.”

I can see the day when states such as California and Illinois will seek bail outs and other states living within their means say why should they support spend thrifts.

I receive live streams from You Tube. I watch Sky for UK news, France 24 from Paris and ABC from Australia. For some reason I can not get a live stream from DW from Berlin. I like these because they are not in the business of bringing down Trump.
