In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Schumer Vows to Filibuster Gorsuch

McConnell is ready with the “nuclear option” to allow a 50 vote majority instead of 60 votes, and he will do what it takes to get Gorsuch confirmed.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced his expected plans to vote “no” on Judge Neil Gorsuch’s nomination to the Supreme Court and promised that Republicans would have to overcome a Democratic filibuster in order to seat him, the Washington Examiner reported.

“I have come to a decision after careful deliberation. I have concluded that I cannot support Neil Gorsuch’s nomination to the Supreme Court,” the New York Democrat said Thursday.

Schumer went on to say that Gorsuch will have to overcome a “cloture vote” and “earn his confirmation.”

  1. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again , if the Republicans nominated Jesus for ANY position in the Trump cabinet the Dem’s would oppose him.

    1. Just thinking the same thing. The Dems are so stupid. Chuck U Squimer is the worst. Well maybe not Puglosi and Waters….oh the list of dumb just gets longer and longer.

Dems Hate America and want us all dead!

  2. If enough sane people are paying attention we can shrink Chuckies minority even more in 2018.
10 Dem senators are up for grabs in red states.
    Every one should be primaried.

    1. Agree. The Dem leadership is committing political suicide–to themselves personally and their party. Filibustering Gorsuch is one more poison pill they are joyfully administering to themselves. Amazing to watch.

    1. You have been banned from the website for making an anti-Semitic comment, as well as the many crude comments you have put up. There is no tolerance here for racism, anti-Semiticism, or anything of the like.

      1. Agree. The long termers here strive to maintain civil discourse, and we support, you, Keith, 100 percent as you work to maintain respectful discussion among the posters.

        1. X2. Leave the nastiness and the name calling to the other side.

What makes this such a wonderful place to spend time is the intelligence and civility of the inhabitants. Time spent here is usually time well spent.

      2. Take that “racism, anti-Semiticism, etc” where it belongs…like MSNBC, CNN, NYTimes, Daily Beast, Daily Kos, NPR…

  3. Go for it Chuckie. Force the Republicans to go nuclear. This won’t be the last supreme court nominee Trump will put for. Pick a fight you can at least win in the court of public opinion. This isn’t it. Pure fumb.

  4. You do that Senator, sure, why not? Send out the Frankens, the Warrens, and the rest of the nasty clowns to show all of us who is really to blame for our crappy economy, the job losses, our poor standing in the world.
Your supporters will cheer, call you wonderful names, and then 2018 will happen. After that, comes 2020.
You might wonder why no one supporting MrTrump is out marching in the streets, disrupting their fellow citizens daily live, rioting and just screaming profane slogans. We don’t do that, we gather our IDs and walk peacefully into our local polling stations and drop the you’re-done bomb.
Silly Repubs might notice that, too. We don’t pick winners according to seniority.
    Just sayin’.

    1. Amen. I would love go out and protest, riot, and whether else. But, I’m employed, have no time for such foolishness. Plus my 79 year old father would plant his boot in my backside.

  5. This is the dumbest possible move he could make. I believe the Yiddish word is “meshugener.”

Gorsuch for Scalia changes nothing. But Ginsburg won’t live forever, and Kennedy is getting a bit long in the tooth, and an originalist for one (or both) of those is Game Over.

He’ll want that filibuster back, and will realize too late that Gorsuch was the wrong hill to die on.

      1. It’s been written before, and by much better writers.

I know it was used in a slightly different context by Hemingway in “For Whom the Bell Tolls.”

I mean, I could get cute, dip into the poker dictionary, and say “the wrong pocket pair to go all-in on”–I’ve certainly been THERE more than once!–but that’s more than a little obscure.

  6. Screw Schumer and the Dems. This is a qualified candidate.

And there should be no deals. There is no reason for the Republicans to be accommodating on this. Especially considering what they have littered the Supreme Court with.

Here’s an article indicating a possible deal.

    1. Too little, too late. The chickens of their multiple procedural abuses over the years have finally come home to roost.

They thought they’d never lose an election again, and they governed with the full reckless arrogance of the tyrannical power-besotted mob that they jolly well were.

And so, herewith, a late–but necessary–introduction: Shoe, I’d like you to meet Other Foot.

      1. And now, because of their behavior, the D’s have lost the Presidency, the Congress and most of the governorships and state legislatures. They’ll lose even more in the upcoming elections.

  7. Whenevr I read about a politician actively and vigorously working against the interests of the United States, I always check to see if George Soros or his affiliates have contributed to his or her political campaigns.

In the case of Chuck Schumer, we have this:

“Soros’ Son Quietly Steps Up as Major Liberal Donor”

    From the Story:

“Alexander (Soros) also contributed the maximum amount allowed ($5,400) to numerous Democratic politicians, including failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, former senator Russ Feingold (D., Wis.), Sen. Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.), and Rep. Keith Ellison, who is in the running to lead the Democratic National Committee.”

    And this:

“Alexander gave more than $4.5 million to Democratic campaign committees and political action committees in 2016, according to campaign finance records. The millions in donations from Alexander throughout the past election cycle is a sharp increase from years past.”

That’s all we need to know, isn’t it? ‘Splains it all. Schumer and the Democrats are bought and paid for by Soros. Like we hadn’t figured that out.
