In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

  1. I found a new channel on You Tube called Thought Cafe. They discuss all sorts of topics. I watched their videos about economics. There are several schools of economic thought. They discussed Classical and Keynesian economics. I look at today’s situation this way.

Up to the Great Depression the US used Classical. It held that markets would self correct with no outside help. John Maynard Keynes, a British economist, developed his theory. It held that it required government to spend in order to stimulate the economy. FDR with his New Deal adopted Keynesian.

Ideally when the market corrects itself the government should stop spending and pay off the debt. This doesn’t happen. The government continues to spend. They establish all sorts of government programs. The people develop the entitlement attitude instead of self reliance.

Along comes Obama. He goes full speed ahead with spending and debt accumulation. The Tea Party started but vilified because if spending were to be decreased the entitlements would too. The backlash continued and Trump was elected.

Trump is an outsider. Many from all sides feel threaten by him because they might lose their entitlements and power.

To me Trump is Keynesian too. He proposed a trillion dollars for infrastructure spending, child care (a $500 billion entitlement), and tax credits for higher education. You don’t hear him talk about cutting spending. Repairing the roads and tunnels is important but it should be paid for by cutting somewhere and not by taking on more debt.

    1. All my life growing up I was taught you could tell an election year by the road repairs. Ever notice how all the roadwork starts getting taken care of before an election? Notice how abruptly it ends after the elections are over? I was taught that is called throw the people a bone to vote for you. After they get the vote it is right back to screw you. Welcome to USA 101.

    1. They fired him. I understand why Trump/Sessions want him gone, but it’s too bad. Preet’s been doing some stellar digging into corrupt Comrade DeBlasio in NYC and Cuomo in NYS. Maybe even the Clinton Crime Family too.

      1. I agree. Don’t know where it fell apart. I understood he had been asked and agreed to stay. Odd. Oh well, maybe the deal was step down per protocol/custom and be rehired to finish the work or just be rehired.

Or maybe the libs got to him. But that doesn’t seem likely for a guy of this character.

      2. Check this out re. his refusal to resign. Sessions did the right thing. Especially in light of many judges and others disrespecting this President and the law. Time to rein in the cowboys.

Maybe Hillary will hire him. Or California — they hired Holder. Only problem is he was going after Cuomo and others so there is that.

          1. Interesting. For a Democrat, Bahara has been pretty even handed, going after both parties equally. But I think he was Chuckles the Clown Schumer’s right hand man in a previous job. And now probably will be again.
