In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Sessions Recuses Himself from Russia Probes

Sessions steps back. But don’t worry, it won’t satisfy Democrats, who will be calling for his head.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions promised Thursday he would recuse himself from any investigation relating to President Trump’s campaign, including the probe into Russia’s alleged influence into the U.S. election, the Washington Examiner reported.

“I have decided to recuse myself from any existing or future investigations of any matters related in any way to the campaigns for President of the United States,” Sessions said in a statement just before he delivered a statement at the Justice Department.

Sessions’ press conference comes 24 hours after it was revealed he met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak last year when he was advising the Trump campaign. Democrats noted that Sessions told the Senate in January that he had never met with any Russian officials.

  1. Every comment-remark these bitter, ugly & ignorant Democrats say about Jeff Sessions just replace with “Hillary Clinton” and see how that sounds…

  2. Sessions has done nothing wrong. Wasn’t Eric Holder held in contempt of Congress?? And yet he went merrily along.

    I’m beyond enraged.

  3. When does it become enough? when are Americans going to step up again and become a part of the solution and not a part of the problem? When does the media stop acting like lap dogs for those who wish to demolish this administration? Where are those media voices calling for Congress to stop throwing temper tantrums like babies and start behaving like adults? Where are the phone calls and letters and e-mails to Congress demanding a cease and desist? When does America tell the previous administration, previous presidential candidates, and all their lackeys to back off? I have been waiting to see just ONE media source to have the backbone to stand up and cry “Enough!”
Instead you see nuances and opinions thrown around as if they were news reports.
Until the silent majority who elected President Trump stands up and roars again, this idiotic nonsense will become even more rabid than it is now. Perhaps if the media refused to air, write, or comment on the mudslinging Congress, they would stop. They throw a constant barrage of mud against everyone and everything in the administration, hoping anything will stick.
I do not care who spoke to whom before the elections. Russia does not control our nation, but Congress and the media are handing Russia that control.

    1. Amen. And where are the Republicans in Congress, quarterbacked by Ryan and McConnell? Have they taken a vow of silence? Do they not realize the Democrats and the corporate media have put the gloves on and will not rest until there is a knockout? And I want Trump be much bolder, louder and supportive of his own nominees. Why isn’t he calling out these disruptors? This is a war for the heart of America, not a game of tiddly-winks.

      1. Rubio, Portman, Graham, said Sessions should recuse himself. The one that is unforgiveable is Kevin McCarthy who sits on Judiciary with Sessions. If anyone knows the measure of the man it is McCarthy. But McCarthy is a Ryan stooge and intends on putting his future chips on Ryan.

Rubio, worthless as a Republican Senator, let alone my Senator.

God bless Cruz for standing strong for Sessions.

  4. Even when we win we find a way to lose…conservatives can never tell the dems (Al Franken no less) to stick it. We are self flagellating idiots with a pathetic complex compelled to bow to people who hate us. I’d say get therapy but most shrinks are libs…..damn.

    1. Dana Perino speculated today Franken is considering a White House run for 2020, noting he’s increasing his profile, and will continue to do so. Bagging Sessions (my words, not hers) would be quite an achievement.

      1. How can you possibly defend the fact that the attorney general lies to the American people and yet is supposed to enforce our laws! You republicans are so bad if a dem did that you would be up in arms! Stop giving republicans a free pass and stop acting like it’s ok because every “knows ” republicans lie! Our president did not get a majority to vote for him and doesn’t have a “mandate ” to do anything! So far he has filled the cabinet with people who like him feel like they can lie to the people and that’s ok because they think that they are some how better then the rest of us! Unbelievable to use the president words!

        1. Eric Holder. Not only lied, but people died. But yeah, Sessions and Trump and all Trump supporters big prevaricators.

Sessions talks to Russians as a Senator. Big whooop. Barack Obama leans in and tells Medvedev to tell Vlad he’ll have more flexibility after the election.

Hillary sells 20% of our uranium to Russia.

And let’s not forget our recent AG the lovely Loretta who met dirty ole Bill on the hangared plane and talked about their grandchildren.

Plus, Sessions did recuse himself from this made up nonsense about Russia and the elections. But the Dems will be back tomorrow and the day after and the day. And their orders will be issued from Kalorama.

Jeff Sessions has stood as a man of honor and integrity for over 30 years. And this was a witch hunt.

        2. It is neither a Democrat nor a Republican defense. This is an American response of outrage over a democratically (not majority, but electorally) elected president. Relay how many politicians meet with foreign ambassadors or visit foreign nations behind the backs of the populace. Review how many have decried this administration and yet when confronted with their selfsame actions, declared it to be different. The only difference is the ideology. Most Americans are over politicians who do not represent all Americans, first and foremost. Most Americans are over the tantrums and mudslinging. They are supposed to represent the best interest of all American citizens. They are throwing stones while living in glass houses. They are calling out others while their own behavior is oftentimes as bad if not worse.

        3. Son of Rusty Shackleford

Our president got a majority of the Electoral College to vote for him which is what the Constitution requires, so you can crawl back into your safe space and suck your thumb or some other appendage. And if Sen. Sessions “lied” then so did Sen. McAsskill who said no senator should meet with the Russian Ambassador when her own tweets said she did in 2013 and 2015. You butthurt libs will never accept Killary lost and will never be the president. Never ever.

  5. Sessions did NOT lie and the dishonest Dems know it. He accurately answered the questions, yet the pathetic Dems are distorting the questions and answers.

Sessions clearly was not asked whether he had ever had any contact with any Russian officials. In both questions, the one by Franken at the hearing and the follow up written question posed by Leahy, the context was clear:

“… anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign, communicated with the Russian government in the course of this campaign.”

“… in contact with anyone connected to any part of the Russian government about the 2016 election…”

Anyone who does not understand the context of the questions – contact “in the course of this campaign” and “about the 2016 election” – has severe reading comprehension problems or is entirely dishonest and manipulative.

During Jeff Session’s Attorney General confirmation hearing on January 10 he was questioned about the Trump campaign’s relations with Moscow.

Sen. Al Franken: ‘If there is any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign, communicated with the Russian government in the course of this campaign, what would you do?

Jeff Sessions: ‘Sen. Franken, I’m not aware of any of those activities.

‘I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians.’

    And, this:

Vermont Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy later pushed Sessions in a written question about his communications with Russian officials.

‘Several of the President-elect’s nominees or senior advisers have Russian ties. Have you been in contact with anyone connected to any part of the Russian government about the 2016 election, either before or after election day?’ Leahy wrote.

Sessions responded with a single written answer: ‘No.’

    1. The coordination between the corrupt Democrats and the corporate press over this Russia issue is a sight to behold, isn’t it. As you say, the context is critical to the story, and the context is exactly what is not being properly reported. It’s yet another example of the RICO type coordination between the D’s and the press in their efforts to undermine the Trump administration. Trump should come out swinging on this one because Sessions is a great appointee, and if he falls or is discredited by this smear, others in the Administration are also on the list to be destroyed.

      1. I totally agree, Marcus. Trump better hold tough on this one. The problem is that the Dems and lamestream media were successful in getting rid of Flynn and once that happened they smelled blood in the water and won’t stop.

I tend to think that Franken’s question was a set-up. Sessions met with the Russian ambassador in his Senate office back in September. That had to have been known prior to Sessions’ January hearing. Franken narrowly tailored the question in asking about contacts between “anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign” and teh Russian government “in the course of this campaign”. At the time he asked that question, Franken and the Dems must have known that Sessions had that meeting in September. They knew the meeting was not about the campaign, but they planned this attack on Sessions’ answers.

They’ve been sitting on it waiting to use at it just the right time, which was a day after President Trump probably had the best day of press coverage since he announced his candidacy back in June of 2015. The Dems couldn’t handle the positive press that Trump received all day Wednesday regarding his excellent speech at his Joint Address to Congress. It was time to launch another dishonest attack, along with a powerful assist from the liberal media.
