In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

  1. It looks like the final Obummer State Dinner, (the fourth one this year), will be the largest yet at 500 invited guests. I’m sure all their pals will be there, along with many “celebs”, as well as the big donors they want to hit up for contributions to his library and foundation.

Just like they started doing in 2009, they’re back to having a “celebrity chef”, this time Mario Batali. Also, Gwen Stefani will be entertaining the guests.

Celebrity chef Mario Batali will cook Barack Obama’s final state banquet tomorrow night when the President welcomes Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi to the White House.

First Lady Michelle Obama met with Batali at his restaurant in New York last month while her husband attended the final UN general assembly meeting of his presidency.

Batali hosts the popular ABC cooking show The Chew and is an expert on modern Italian cooking.

He is also highly supportive of the First Lady’s efforts to encourage healthy eating among the American people.

Details of tomorrow’s menu are top secret at this stage, although the White House is expected to release the information tomorrow.

According to the New York Times, Mrs Obama spent two hours sampling food from the proposed menu.

The White House said 500 guests would be at the dinner and they will be given ‘traditional Italian dishes that have been ingrained in American cuisine’.

The guests will be entertained by No Doubts singer Gwen Stefani on the South Lawn in a specially decorated tent.

Batali told the New York Times: ‘These are some of my favorite people on the whole planet, and they’re asking me to cook for the final state dinner of the presidency, and, oh, by the way, it’s the Italians who are coming? It doesn’t get better.’

‘I’d be lying to say I wasn’t shaking in my boots a little bit,’ Mr Batali said. He confirmed he would be wearing his signature orange Crocs, joking: ‘It’s all I’ve got.’

He added: ‘I knew it was going to be something using almost 100 per cent American ingredients, and nothing that would alienate anybody or frighten anybody or look like it was really fancy. The dishes were all inspired by Italian dishes, so they will be simple and recognizable, but each with something to delight and surprise.’

Batali will arrive at the White House from New York today with four assistants to begin preparation for tomorrow’s feast.

  2. Gwen is a good example of a hard working girl who built that! from my old “hood” but wow, get it while you can Obamas. Tick tick bye bye

  3. “All Hail” “Spaghetti and Pizza for all my friends!”
Then Elijah said to them ” Seize the prophets of Baal, do not let one of them escape. So they seized; them and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon and slew them there.” !kings 18:40 So ended 450 false prophets of a false god. How many false prophets attend State Dinners?

  4. Again with the “specially decorated tent” on the lawn. How much will that extravagance cost? Does the White House not have a suitable dining room for entertaining visiting heads of state?

  5. According to the New York Times Mrs Obama spent two hours sampling food from the proposed menu.

I wonder how much she shoveled in her face in the allotted time frame.
