Geoff Caldwell June 11, 2016, 10:07 am at 10:07 am Read this op/ed which my local paper sadly felt was worthy of the prime spot today: http://joplinglobe.cnhi.newsmemory.com/publink.php?shareid=3ae1af746 It’s all about a couple of former WH counsels, Iowa’s Attorney General and director of Drake law center bashing Chuck Grassley & Repubs for not caving to Obama on Scalia’s replacement. Miller, the Attorney General goes so far to say the Repubs are effectively “de facto amending the Constitution” and another decried will do “huge damage”. The author touts the panels “unanimous” views that should “scare any self-respecting and/or patriotic U.S. citizen. Yet here’s the author’s bio: Rekha Basu, is a Des Moines Register opinion columnist with a focus on human rights and social justice. And to top it of Miller is a Democrat and the sponsoring group is an avowed progressive legal organization. Basu paints all the participants as “experts” and “scholars” yet nowhere did I see any mention of their historical knowledge that there is no Constitutional requirement for 9 on the Supreme Court and over time there have been many smaller numbers. And this is what get’s distributed nationally as “informed” commentary. UGH!
