In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

  1. Now watching MrTrump on FOX as he sits on the couch, chatting about this and that.
He is a master of conversation, shows a comfortable aura even while being questioned, and manages to give all of his talking points in a casual setting.

Every political operative, every pundit is still mystified at MrTrump’s success with the voters. The man has what JohnKennedy and RonReagan had in spades – charisma and likeability, something missing in all of the other candidates. MrTrump can stumble over phrases, say something off-kilter, propose something not popular and yet – we forgive or overlook, because WE do the same, talk the same. His supporters believe he’s one of them, even though his whole life experience is so removed from the average American that they can’t imagine living as he does- doesn’t matter.
    What a guy.

    1. That’s about it srdem65. Trump doe’s it without prearranged fluff questions, or a preview of questions.
      No scripted interview.
I can easily imagine talking with him.

      1. Every news anchor wants to trip him up, to make him utter the faux pas that will be the end of his candidacy (yes, the MSM anchors still believe this). Chris Wallace wouldn’t give up on Trump’s comment on Hillary’s woman card, asking Trump if he was sorry or regretted his statement. Ha ha ha. Poor Chris Wallace. He’s clueless.

        1. I get so sick and tired of Wallace. He’s one of the worst at playing “gotcha”
srdem65, CiscoKid, Carol all spot on.
Of course the media, Wallace, et al will never understand it because they aren’t out to “report” they’re there pump themselves up in their own bubble world of parties and peer pressure.

          1. Ugh–that awkward love-in. Someone on WaPo asked me why awkward–because the press and president are supposed to be at arm’s length, not like puppies tumbling in a basket. And because Obama is not funny–ever. And this year because he didn’t even have good writers. Seeing the press clapping like demented seals irks the pulp out of me.

          2. For sure. And the press’s reward is that the public (us, the citizenry), has a record low trust in the “press”. No one believes them, relies on them for information, fair interpretation of events or pays much attention to them.

“Nearly two-thirds of Americans think the news stories they read, hear and watch are frequently inaccurate, according to a poll released Sunday by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press.”

“Since 2002, every news outlet’s believability rating has suffered a double-digit drop, except for local daily newspapers and local TV news.”

      2. Trump’s entire life has been on display for many years so he has nothing to hide. That is why he looks and feels comfortable discussing almost any topic. And he has a sense of humor which most people like.

  2. Well……it IS Sunday. LOL
My shameless self-promotion for the week:
Sunday Globe column: Hastert etal, Remove them all from society, permanently.
Face it folks, our society is sick and it’s getting sicker. I place the blame squarely on a 40 year march to the left and one by one removing the moral guard rails until now we’re on a mountain road taking hair pin curves at 70 mph. There’s no question the car’s going over the side, it’s only a matter if anyone survives the crash.

    1. Geoff,
      Newton’s Law.
For every force, there is an equal and opposite reaction. That scientifically explains Trump!
