Good morning! In the news today: Obama will raise overtime pay for millions; Bush terms Confederate flag “racist”; Trump dumped; Obama-Clinton Benghazi call made before second attack wave; Supreme Court could end affirmative action; and Ted Cruz’s tragic older sister.
Have a great day.

Obama to unilaterally raise overtime pay . . . Salaried workers who earn nearly $1,000 per week would become eligible for overtime pay under a proposal President Barack Obama unveiled Monday, lamenting that too many Americans are working too many hours for less pay than they deserve. The long-awaited overtime rule from the Labor Department would more than double the threshold at which employers can avoid paying overtime, from the current $455 a week to $970 a week by next year. Book of the Week . . . This is the book that tells the real story of Obama’s contempt for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and his lousy treatment of Israel. “I’m not sure that in the annals of diplomatic history there’s ever been anything quite like this astonishing account of Oren’s four years as Israel’s ambassador in Washington. Since only suits against the states of Ohio, Tennessee, Michigan and Kentucky were specifically considered in the Supreme Court’s Obergefell v. Hodges decision, Cruz — a former Supreme Court clerk — believes that other states with gay marriage bans need not comply, absent a judicial order. Politico
Don’t get the wrong impression. This would just delay things, since challenges to bans would be struck down by judges now that Supreme Court has ruled.
Cruz’s tragic older sister . . . Miriam’s is a story of drug addiction, crime and jail time and one on which Sen Cruz touches for the first time in his newly published memoir, ‘A Time for Truth.’ In it he describes Miriam as ‘beautiful…quite intelligent and incredibly loving’. She was the sister who would play with him ‘for hours on end’ when he was a toddler. But, he writes, ‘Though she was a sweet person with a good heart, she slowly surrendered to her wild side.’ Now a Daily Mail Online investigation has uncovered the full story of Miriam’s ‘wild side’ and her pitiful descent into addiction ending with her premature death from an accidental overdose of a cocktail of prescription medication, alone in a crack house age just 49. Details of Clinton-Obama Benghazi call withheld . . . New documents released by a federal court show President Obama called then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the night of the 2012 Benghazi attack — but the contents are being withheld by the State Department. It had previously been disclosed that Clinton and Obama spoke the night of the terror attacks. But the documents offer additional information about the timing of the call — after the initial attack on the U.S. consulate, but before the second wave where mortars hit the nearby CIA annex and killed former Navy SEALs Ty Woods and Glen Doherty. The end of institutional Affirmative action- I’ll believe that when it happens.
SenCruz- A lot of Americans can tell the same kind of story about their family’s drug tragedies. Lives of degradation, crime, abandoned children, poor health, and worst of all, death should be the family’s private sorrow, not a political topic.
SoSKerry is looking for anything that he can crow about – a no-good no deal is all he’s going to get. His term is almost over so he might as well go home and go sailing.
Money, money – things are not looking good in a lot of countries. We’re going to get hit with pressure to help bailout others even thought we’re sucking water ourselves.
The Benghazi article regarding the phone.
It states the contents of the call, however are being witheld, NOT because the information is classified but because the admin. claims they represent internal delibertons about the 2012 terror assault.
Now I think they should not releasethe important info that we would not like our enemies or the maniacs to see is just fine. However we deserve to know (listen) if the call was discussing not doing a darn thing, or was it all serious discussion of trying to help.
We all sat at home watching this nightmare. Nothing was done to help them!!!!
As this claim comes as Clinton faces accusaations that she witheld Benghazi related emails.
My favorite line in today’s REDLINE was this one: “…lamenting that too many Americans are working too many hours for less pay than they deserve”. How about lamenting that too many are working too few hours, or working two part-time jobs, on neither of which they can make ends meet and neither of which offers benefits? And how can Barack do this anyway?? It’s private industry we’re talking about here.
Sleeping under a rock Ellen? (just teasing). Barack Obama rules by diktat. He can do anything. Ask John Roberts.
ValJar’s pals: Who knew the White House was now available as a billboard for special interest advertising.
And with that arbitrary rule on overtime pay where will Barack Obama find the funds needed to give the Iranians the money to build the nuclear bomb?
This is not a country in decline — this is a country that has been destroyed by the progressive left Marxist Americans.
Since when do only parties to a case before the Supreme Court have to abide by the decision. Huh? Cruz’s story about his sister was sad–we have a drug case in our immed fam, too–very hard to deal with. I believe the McGoverns also had a child with substance issues.
As for overtime pay–most companies give paid time off equal to the overtime expended–there was a catch there, as I recall, because if you were that busy, you had no time to take the comp time. Still, with his little penny-pen-pen, he is now altering thousands of businesses.
