In the history of mankind, many republics have risen, have flourished for a less or greater time, and then have fallen because their citizens lost the power of governing themselves and thereby of governing their state. TR

Good morning! In the news today: A horrifying Amtrak derailment in Philadelphia kills six, wounds more than 140; Obama’s trade bill goes down, thanks to Democrats; the fake Jeb Bush Iraq answer crisis; Hillary beefs up damage control operation; Evangelicals grow as Christians shrink; and, have a nice left-wing commencement.

Have a great day.

Massive Amtrak derailment in Philly kills six; scores hurt . . . Federal investigators and other rail experts picked Wednesday through the wreckage of an Amtrak train that originated in Washington and derailed in Philadelphia, leaving six dead, more than 140 people hospitalized and shutting down train service along parts the busy Northeast corridor. Officials said 243 passengers and five crew members were on the New York-bound train when it jumped the tracks around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. It had left D.C.’s Union Station around 7:30 p.m. along one of the most heavily traveled routes for Amtrak. Washington Post

Dems hand Obama blistering trade bill defeat . . . Obama is a man for whom the essence of democratic – small “d” – politics is alien: building relationships, negotiating, bargaining, and so forth. He does not have strong ties to lawmakers on either side of the aisle. He is close to his inner circle, and that’s pretty much it. The president was even tone deaf enough to get himself accused of sexism for singling out Elizabeth Warren. White House Dossier

Why no presidential statement on Garland? . . . More than a week after an attempted terrorism attack in Garland, Texas that could have killed dozens of citizens had it succeeded, there has been no statement of condemnation from the president. White House Dossier

Fournier: Obama could end up one of worst presidents . . . The relatively unbiased, and certainly not right wing, Ron Fournier of National Journal said Monday evening that President Obama could go down as “one of the worst presidents in our nation’s history” if Iran develops nuclear weapons under the deal he’s negotating with them and it inspires Arab Middle Eastern states to start constructing their own nukes. White House Dossier

Some of you may think he’s already achieved this milestone . . .

Mrs. Obama’s comments on race . . . I don’t frankly agree with some of the other commenters I’ve seen on the right, who have made snide points to the effect of, “Poor Mrs. Obama, with her wonderful lifestyle, still complaining.” People can have beautiful lives and still feel the sting of racism, and certainly have experienced it on the way up. My concern here is that both of the Obamas seem to now be making race a very large focus on their agenda. And this can end up being dangerously divisive. White House Dossier

Obama bemoans declining government – as it grows . . .  Government cuts? What government cuts? Let’s take education, the most important item on Obama’s list. I think pretty much everyone knows that there has been no decline in spending on education; on the contrary. Spending on education has constantly climbed, without any corresponding improvement in quality. John Hinderaker

Dolan: Government not focused on persecution of Christians . . . When it comes to protecting Christians in the Middle East who are vulnerable to extreme persecution, the U.S. government has its priorities all wrong, said Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the archbishop of New York. Part of the reason may be that government officials are not well-schooled in the nature of the persecution, but even more so, they seem to be focusing on the promotion of “reproductive rights” and “gay rights” almost to the exclusion of other issues. Newsmax

GOP ramps up abortion fight . . . Republicans are ramping up their attack on Roe v. Wade with a House vote Wednesday on a bill banning late-term abortions. While it’s unlikely to pass the Senate and reach President Obama’s desk, Republicans say they are playing a long game. They hope that, over time, support for prohibiting most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy will become widespread. The Hill

  1. SenReid: oh, shut up.
MrsObama’s life of racial slurs: the first time she walked into a life where she was a true minority was the day she appeared at her Ivy league college. Raised and schooled in a mostly Black, lower middle-class environment didn’t prepare her for four years with the children of the upper-class or millionaire status. What she saw as ‘racist’ attitude toward her was simply a class distinction from her fellow students.
After her schooling was complete, she enjoyed high-paying patronage jobs, and then was anointed First Lady by virture of a majority of voters approving a Black man to be their President.
Today, she proves to be a race-concious as any bigot she dislikes with her constant pandering to the Black community.
Bush III, The Donald, and all the rest: learn not to give interviews to any who you know are looking to twist, spin, or just misinterpret anything you say about any subject.

    1. MO’s brother went to Princeton and I never heard (or read about) him complain. He seemed to do quite well for himself as a contributing member of society….outside of politics.

      1. Denise, her brother went to Princeton ? But isn´t he into some sport ? Basketball ? Well, maybe that´s what they teach there nowadays .

    1. Amtrack has been subsidized by the taxpayer since it’s inception.
Never made a dime’s worth of profit, so how could the GOP be at fault ?

      1. Yup–they went right for this on MoJoe–suddenly a HUGE, country-wide everything is a mess deal! With no evidence of anything in yet! Of course, they had all been on that train–I have, too–many many times. The derailment is a nightmare to contemplate. One guy on MoJoe–former Dem rep–said he tried to help in the club car and an Amtrak employee scurried around getting ice for people–so Amtrak had at least one hero…or heroine. And prob many more.

    2. Rush just mentioned this on his program referring to the infrastructure spending.
1 trillion $ has been spent since 2008,…..where did it go ?
A lot of it went to unions, not infrastructure.

  2. I love how the DEMS are already blaming the train wreck on the infrastructure (GOP) when the cause has not yet been determined. It could have been due to speed or alcohol/drugs..any number of things.

I’m guessing Obama will have another huge stimulus check ready for Dingy Harry by the end of the week. Everything seems to be going his way lately. Probably has surveyors checking out Mt. Rushmore as we speak.
