As of now, I am in control here, in the White House

Obama: Fox News Describes Poor as Leeches

President Obama in remarks Tuesday at Georgetown University:

I think that the effort to suggest that the poor are sponges, leeches, don’t want to work, are lazy, are undeserving, got traction . . .

If you watch Fox News on a regular basis, it is a constant menu. They will find folks who make me mad. I don’t know where they find them. They’re all like, “I don’t want to work, I just want a free Obamaphone.” And that becomes an entire narrative that gets worked up. Very rarely do you hear an interview of a waitress, which is much more typical, who is raising a couple of kids and doing everything right but still can’t pay the bills.

And so if we’re going to change how John Boehner and Mitch McConnell think, we’re going to have to change how the body politic thinks, which means we’re going to have to change how the media reports on these issues.

  1. It would have probably helped his smear better if he had an actual quote of someone on Fox saying those things.

Shouldn’t be too hard since Fox keeps all the videos of BO saying stupid stuff too. He hates that, Fox is mean to him ;)

  2. Fox mentioned a couple of times this morning that people from a poor neighborhood invited people getting away from the train wreak offering water, and comfort.
I pulled up to see who were the 45 Republicans who voted for the Trade issue.
Mitch McConnel said he would work to bring back the measure later.
He sounded like a spoiled child, as far as I am concerned.

  3. Obama is sounding more and more like King Lear, mumbling to himself about how others are out to “get him”, how no one appreciates him. Slowly going mad, angry at everyone, not sure who to trust. Weird to watch him try to punch his way out of his own messes.

    • not Lear…Captain Queeg from “The Caine Mutiny.” (I can just see him rolling those metal ball bearings around in his hand muttering about Fox News.)

among other things, Lear is a complicated character, one of the greatest and most sympathetic characters in western literature.

there’s nothing complicated, sympathetic, or great about Barack Obama.

and speaking of “punching,” this is a perfect example of punching down. can you remember any other US president calling out one particular news network ALL THE TIME like Obama does Fox? I don’t.

      • I do remember an interview with George W. Bush in which the interviewer (pretty sure it was a Fox reporter), tried to get him to criticize the press for trashing him.

He was having none of that. He just laughed it off as freedom of the press and that is what this country is about.

Gosh, wish I could find that clip!

  4. How confusing – does he watch FOX on a regular basis or is this just another one of his petulant whines about his supposed enemies?

We all know he wasn’t referring to poor White people, but his favored poor “boys of color”. Both of the Obamas are positioning themselves for their life after the WhiteHouse as champions of the poor, we can assume poor Blacks – hence the Obama Foundation.
Their public comments in the last few months are distasteful at best, and race baiting at worst.
They belittle themselves and the high office they both hold.

      • Except when it come to telling the youth to stop polluting their bodies with drugs. You’re far less likely to assault a cop and be shot dead without pot and hallucinogens in your system.

    • Spot on, srdem! This us all a set-up for the Foundation slush funds that will catapult them to the Bill Gates and Warren Buffett level of incredible wealth. They already have a good start with their OFA slush fund which Obama has campaigned so vigorously for during the last 7 years.

If Congress wasn’t so corrupt, they would have closed all of the Foundation
loopholes years ago. Unfortunately, everyone in D.C. is there to acquire personal wealth at our expense.

Since Obama’s only obstacle seems to be FOX news…he can always get a consortium together and buy them out after he leaves office. Bill and Hill would probably love to help him out!

  5. Some of “the poor” are leaches, and that is a problem. The liberal politicians keep telling them that the government owes them obamaphones, and that “the man” is keeping them down. The problem won’t get any better until they are no longer victimized by their own politics.

It is partially not their fault, because they are just kind of dumb, and believe the crap that is handed to them. Yes, we can stick “the rich” and give them candy for a while, but is it good for the future of our culture? Look around. That is being answered before our eyes in the news.

  6. So he supposedly watches Fox news on a regular basis? Come on! Don’t kid a kidder. I do watch Fox a substantial amt (not exclusively) and never heard this–except maybe the CLUELESS on Watters’ World or something, which is pretty much comedy with the movie inserts, etc. The Obamaphone scuffle–if there was one–is so dated, too! This goes back to my mantra–No one knows Fox better than people who have never seen it.

      • well SOMEONE is watching Fox at the WH. (not Obama though: the game’s on!) that’s why this kind of remark from Obama is so sleazy: they KNOW IT IS NOT TRUE as they say it.

I’d love to hear a highlight reel of all the times a Fox on-air personality has said that poor people are leeches. I’m gonna bet that reel would consist of zero clips.

did a guest ever say anything like that? maybe. but last week, a Fox guest said that Pamela Geller should be tried by a sharia court and executed for defaming Mohamed. would Obama accuse Fox of supporting jihad?

  7. I was particularly impressed with The Leader of the Free World’s use of the English Language, “THEY’RE ALL LIKE”, “I don’t want to work, I just want a free Obamaphone.” What’s he going for, the Valley Girl vote!

    • Oh, and the reason he brought up Obamaphones was to be able to say his own name, thereby cleverly avoiding the use of I, me or mine while still calling attention to himself!!

  8. Didn’t any of Barry’s handlers think to send his moronic self to leadership courses? 7 Habits of Highly Effective People? Something. Something that would keep him from insulting the Americans who don’t necessarily buy into his particular vision?

    • Why should he put a pretty face on it? He does not like anyone who disagrees with him. He, Valerie Jarrett, and his white-hating, race-baiting wife would march their detractors to slaughter, if given the opportunity.
